The Asia Internet Coalition (AIC), a powerful industry body that represents Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Netflix and Spotify

Anything a group that looks like that wants can't be good for anyone else. And from reading further it sure isn't.

This resistance comes in response to a coordinated push by India’s top telecom operators — Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea — to bring OTT services under a new authorization framework.

Jio, India’s largest telecom operator with more than 475 million subscribers, and other telco operators have recommended that OTT providers contribute to network development costs based on their traffic consumption, turnover and user base.

This is one of those times that ISPs want not just their customers to pay them, but big companies online should also pay them since it's their services that are being used on their networks.

So fuck all of them in other words. Sounds good to me.

While I would generally agree, this sounds like failing Telcos seeking to use the government to steal cash from Big Tech companies, and attacking net neutrality to achieve it.

I haven't heard of Telco's anywhere failing so hard they go this route. It's either corruption &/or sheer incompetence. Either way, most Telcos are just as scummy as any big tech company.

Yeah, Modi's government vs telecoms is a big case of "let them fight"
