Fireside chats are so back

If this guy runs for president we will have many bots going "oh yeah what about that one time he hesitated to call it a genocide". Don't get me wrong it is %100 a genocide but equating someone with Trump because of this would be ridiculous, he is one of the most progressive democrats around which makes for a nice jumping board.

He can't, he was not born in the USA

[–] bender223@lemmy.today 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

trump already put the Constitution in the trash, so it doesn't matter 😛

[–] FruitLips@lemmy.ml 7 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Neither can a treasonous felon rapist, I once thought.

[–] mangobanana@discuss.online 1 points 10 hours ago

Yeah I know

[–] LePoisson@lemmy.world 30 points 1 day ago (9 children)

He was born in Uganda so he can't run for president. No worries there.

We have a rapist, thief, traitor, and war criminal in the oval office. There are many immigrants who have more honor, integrity, and intelligence than Agent "Krasnov" Orange.

Sticking to rules, when the Grand Old Pedophile party uses them selectively, is a fool's game. We must either elect Mamdani or AOC, preferably both, into top offices.

If the GOP protests? Punch them, and ignore their opinion. Because they don't give a shit about law nor decency, and should face the consequences of breaching the social contract.

I kind of think blatantly violating the constitution is a good way to not get put on any ballots in the USA. Like the states board of elections would never go along with that. That's silly talk.

Plenty of politicians that are deserving of the presidency exist aside from AOC.

He is trying to be the next FDR with modernized fireside chats, and I am vibing with it.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yup. Mamdani is teaching the modern left how to spread the message. There is a lot of disdain from the left on social media. A lot of us are smart enough to recognise that socmed is vapid and shallow. But we're not too bright to recognise that that is where people are at these days, no matter how dumb socmed is. That's why the often criticism of the left is the poor messaging. Now I understand what that criticism mean.

Social media is the new plaza, like how radio, cinema and TV were during FDR's time. As a matter of fact, the Nazis also recognised the potential power of radio. One of their early policies is to buy everyone a radio; so that the Nazis could control information. This is not different from today in which oligarchs and the far right also recognised the potential of socmed as a tool for control.

its the oldguard dnc that doesnt know how to reach thier voters, they stuck to the traditional MSM where everything is curated and controlled.

Ignoring social media has been the biggest mistake of the left across the world. In my home country, an objectively better and progressive candidate was outvoted by the son of an ex-dictator by a landslide, because the said candidate is an old school progressive who still does the old-fashioned way of convincing voters, by going door to door and relying on legacy media, instead of presenting a brand of herself in social media like Mamdani does. That's when I realised "yup, social media is now where the frontline is, whether we like it or not."

Been waiting for such a long time for a politician to do this. NYC did an amazing job at electing him.

I personally don't foresee this being that good of an idea. I foresee disinformation bots, porn link bots, and hate comments forcibly flooding the chat to ensure nothing actually happens, with not enough moderators to deal with it all. That, and twitch refusing to help moderate and instead shutting the account down in an attempt to silence him for big daddy Baldo.

[–] davetortoise@reddthat.com 10 points 1 day ago

Large twitch chats definitely can be constructive and well moderated, and the mayors office definitely has the resources to do that. I'm cautiously optimistic

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

its not like traditional MSM is going to give him a fair light,, where the propaganda is even worst. hes targeting his audience, young gen-z people and maybe some milleneals. hes villified by both old guard DNC and the gop.

[–] artyom@piefed.social 85 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (44 children)

Cool, but it'd be a lot cooler if it wasn't on Twitch.

E: really depressing to see that even people on the Threadiverse don't understand Big Tech problems and how they impact our daily lives, or can even fathom the idea of anyone making a difference.

[–] mangobanana@discuss.online 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What? They are supposed to use some small unknown platform? Like how do you expect people to be able to access something if they don't know that it exists

[–] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

He...tells them? The same way people access his Twitch livestream without knowing it exists. The same way we are finding out right now.

[–] mangobanana@discuss.online 1 points 10 hours ago

But how many people are going to actually watch it because they're already using twitch? Probably a lot more than who are learning about it organically.

He's going where the working people are. That's a people problem, honestly.

He's been office for 5 months! Why isn't everything perfect? Ffs, we have a guy in the white house trying to burn the world down so he can make a buck. Put your ire towards trump, but your thoughtful criticism towards Mamdani.
