My windows 10 PC is telling me I don't qualify for a free Windows 11 update, so I've got that going for me.

That's not quite their position. They believe the OSI decides what counts as Open Source based on what benefits big tech who fund them. Basically, they think it's wrong to argue that something cannot be considered open source unless Google is allowed to use the free labour of contributers without restriction or payment.
They talk more about it here and here.
Personally I don't have a side in this fight but nothing I have seen has made me shy away from using their products.
Immich joined FUTO, and FUTO's model is that their stuff costs money but if you haven't paid you're not restricted.
A bit weird but they (FUTO) are trying to experiment with a new model.
It sounds like a really cool project regardless!
Ah of course!
I guess one of the things the Google originally solved was that the internet if full of crap and not all sites should have equal weighing. With AI spam sites these days, you'd probably also need a method of weighting results?
Ah that sounds really interesting! Does it scale OK? I guess you could index at a word level and filter quite quickly for quick searches, but it seems you're going to have to store the full text of every website?
That sucks. What was the novel search engine approach?
I think NZ's is a similar story. GovHack is run in NZ as well, though I haven't personally been involved in an event.
NZ as well: https://data.govt.nz
Though this it takes work for the different government departments to maintain. The team at data.govt.nz work with the different government departments to try to identify suitable data sources and get them into an update cycle, but there's definitely not all data that can be released on there.
That's great, thanks!
I'm running Nobara on my laptop and have been for some time, but I do find it crashes a bit. Not sure if it's hardware or software (I'm using an original Framework laptop, and I know there have been hardware changes to resolve some things).
I'm looking for stability first of all, so I might try Mint first off and change only if I find issues.
From a search, it seems photos are no longer accessible via Google Drive and photos downloaded through the API (such as with Rclone) are not in full resolution and have the EXIF data stripped.
Google really fuck over anyone using Google Photos as a backup.
