Reddit 100% was censoring and shadow banning any kbin or lemmy mentions.

I wouldn't even be surprised if reddit actively promoted or even creates negative comments. There was a precedent of people abandoning Digg so they were clearly very aware and afraid.

At the end of the day it's impossible to tell with these incredibly opaque networks. It's even hard to confirm comment visibility as Reddit employs data fudging and shadow banning.

Just another reminder that nothing any closed source social media says should be trusted, ever.

Lots of non-answers but to clarify - yes but no comments.

Sometimes a login wall might block you but if you refresh a couple of times it should work.

That's exactly what will happen.

Apple absolutely harms other companies to the point where are taken to court all the time.

There's no such thing as "their own ecosystem"

As someone who writes on Medium ocassionally — no.

Medium like all other blogging platforms has a problem of incentive. The pay is too little for quality writing and there's always a gamble on whether your article gets views as you don't control SEO or even formatting for that matter.

It was always filled with low effor slop because most are either:

  • practicing writing
  • building out their brand which is basically newbies
  • trying to make pennies through low effor churn

I feel for Medium here as it does have an unsolvable problem really and AI has nothing to do with it.

They're just jumping the newscycle for the propaganda machine. Russian government doesn't care about tech or linux unless it can help them deliver more bombs to Ukrainian babies and you don't need to fork the kernel for that.

The way Apple gets away with stuff makes me feel very conspiratorial. Like, how?

How is Apple getting a pass every time and my tin foil hat would say that they are protected by the US government. Maybe because it's just an important corporation for the US economy but maybe it's an important corporation for US spying too.

It's incredible how long Apple has gotten a pass which makes me wonder why are they so protected.

The Guardian review is more critical than others. I've never known they even review video games. Are they always like this?

100% this is not technology Russian citizens will ever see domestically. It'll be some front for the propaganda machine.

One tries to make money by gathering data and targeting advertising to people intentionally addicted to a platform. The other is, you know… a blog.

but that's not the issue in question. The issue is social media is introducing negative mental effects into teens life. Which we can all agree is true to some extent.

Now, how should we address this? Should we target specific elements like algorithmic timelines and lack of anti-bullying moderation which btw are 2 things that are scientifically proven here or we prohibit teens from accessing all social media even one that has no these harmful designs?

Do you see how this is just a shitty policy no matter how you look at it? It doesn't prevent big corps from making a bank and does zero things to address the actual issue. It's fucking stupid.

I'm confused why Kotaku mentioning next gen in the title when Rockstar only commented on current generation PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

I wonder what Lemmings are thinking of this device. I admire the innovation but just don't see how this would be used in practice outside of memes.

Most interesting part of the article:

"Our focus is on transforming our biggest franchises from largely console and PC-based with 3-4 year release schedules to include more always-on gameplay through live services, multiplatform, and free-to-play extensions, with the goal of having more players spending more time on more platforms. U

Ultimately, we want to drive engagement and monetization over longer cycles and at higher levels where per specific capabilities we're currently under scale, and see significant opportunity to generate greater post-purchase revenue"

What a major turn-off ngl.

Ad free Facebook and Instagram is officially on. I'm trying to stay open minded but honestly it's too expensive especially with this sneaky account center rule unless you're in an unfortunate position where you need to spend a lot of time on these platforms.
