I can understand both sides and I've been on both sides. Wanting to donate to show appreciation and help support an awesome project, and not accepting donations due to creating the burden of unfair support/development expectations for a volunteer project.

It really is such a cool extension.

They still probably use ad blockers for other sites though. It's essential on the Internet these days.

The number of malware or otherwise malicious ads is too damn high. There are articles that are so filler they literally have less content than ads, it's an embarrassment.

20TB (out of 21TB usable), a second 6x6TB zfs raidz2 server as my send target.

I've registered on a bunch of Lemmy instances, but I stuck with lemmy.ml because for the most part it seemed to have the least amount of downtime IME. Though I think they're all pretty stable these days anyway.

What you said is very true though, it helps to try out and especially actively use alternatives, since that's how you end up with software like Chrome (not really but kind of, you get the idea).

When I was younger, I used to think politics didn't matter and that all politicians are crooks. Now I know that all politicians are crooks AND politics matters and has real-world consequences.

Why can’t they just fork the last usable version of chromium and go from there as an independent fork? Is it just that no one wants to?

Creating or even just maintaining a web browser is an insurmountable amount of work. With constantly changing and new specs coming out all the time, it's an unwinnable amount of work. Not to mention, browsers and the Internet in general is so complex it's like web browsers are an operating system themselves.

A web browser is likely the most complex software on your PC outside of the operating system itself.

My last two companies have been mostly fully remote, we've done all hands meetings, we've done regular scheduled meetings, and everything in between all remotely. It works well, employees are happier and we produce better work as a result.

If you think it has no possibility of success, sit back and relax as AI goes away.

Yep. This is exactly it, and this is what people don't seem to understand. AI is not going away, because it is actually useful, it has actual uses and people are actively using it. It's not entirely fluff based pointless technology like blockchain etc, it is actually useful and real-world people use AI/LLMs.
