"Reddit is awful. How do we move that here?"

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Most people don't change unless they have to, and rarely even then. You'd have to make it so that they can't visit Reddit anymore.

Even on reddit itself, you can't get people to move from a sick community with hostile moderation to the preferred community. /r/Canada got taken over by /r/metacanada what feels like decades ago, and they turned it into a post modern bigoted classist hellhole, but it still ranks far above the "real" Canadian sub /r/OnGaurdForThee.

Maybe better not to compete with existing communities. Develop some anchor communities on Lemmy that are doing their own thing on topics that aren't well served on Reddit.

Intentionally causing a person to fear harm is assault. Greentext is committing assault. It might not be possible to convict for it, but it's still assault.

It always bothered me because "shaking my head" isn't even a figure of speech people say, so how the fuck can you use an acronym form of the expression.

The advantage of a neural AI, in my mind, isn't that it is better. It is that it is worse in a way that is fun.

Replying because I need to think about how I'm going to vote for this comment and plan to come back later.

I dunno what cameras you are using but a standard full frame sensor and an F/4 lens sees way better in low light than the human eye. If I take a raw image off my camera, there is so much more dynamic range than I can see or a monitor can even represent, you can double the brightness at least four times (ie 16x brighter) and parts of the image that looked pure black to the eye become perfectly usable images. There is so so so much more dynamic range than the human eye.

Jesus, the "plandemic" explanation for why the Internet is dying. The Internet IS clearly dying, but this is stupid. Even if we got rid of all the bots and AI, the Internet would still be dying, because open protocols are not as exploitable as walled gardens. The value of capital in the world overwhelms the value of human labour and human interest, and all our social structures conform to the needs of capital over time.
