Every single one of my "internet facing" devices is blocked from accessing the internet at the router. If I want to access them they either get added to my HomeAssistant instance or another computer that's only accessible from the outside through my VPN.

All of the convenience with the privacy concerns practically eliminated. It costs $6 a month in hosting for the VPS I set the wireguard server up on.

Huh. I though they used basic stone-working tools and the simple machines we learn about in elementary school -- just at a larger scale.

Weird.

If it weren't so difficult and require so much effort, I'd rather clicking the link cause the server to switch to serving up poisoned data -- stuff that will ruin a LLM.

Some of the modern recreations of neanderthals look like people I've seen in bars.

On a cold night after a few handfuls of fermented berries ... I probably would too.

Or genetic defects.

"Something about that person is extremely off-putting. I do believe I'm not going have sex with them."

Even "good quality" stainless steel can easily rust, as anyone who's owned quality kitchen knives will tell you. Some stainless alloys are more resistant than others -- but exposed to the right conditions they all corrode.

I know I'm late to the party, but my go-to refutation is "Ok, name one school that's doing that. Go ahead and look it up on your phone."

Then point out if a single school actually did have litter boxes for the kids the name of the school and everyone involved would be easy to find. It's not something that could be kept secret: just one person has to say something -- a kid talking to their relative, faculty, a parent, etc. Once that happened FOX, OANN, etc would be on that like flies on shit ... and they would name and shame.

But they aren't, because it's bullshit.

If I worked for animal control and some dipshit school administer asked be to come collect a human child from their school, they would receive the following with the minimum amount of tact needed to keep my job:

  • "I don't care that's it's a law -- that law was written by morons. You're a moron too."
  • Variations of "What the hell is wrong with you?", "I don't work for you", and "Go fuck yourself".

I'd like to think most of the people actually employed as animal control officers would respond the same way.

I took their comment to mean "companies offering VPN services as a subscription for the purpose of privacy".

It wouldn't be hard to target those companies specifically while leaving every other "legitimate" (in their view) use cases for VPNs alone.

My understanding is "I was a", "former", or "retired" are fine. Same situation as any other licensed profession, like doctor.

Even if there were no bots and it was only "real" content from Threads ... is that the sort of content we want to have Lemmy flooded with?
