Hi there, first I don't fully understand what is going on with RCS protocol.

Is it a new wallet garden for Google/Samsung/Apple or is it possibly a good move for secure and decentralized communication.

What do you think about this small test app and about the RCS protocol in general ? Is it worth to take a look ?

The official announcement was mentioned in Matrix's blog post:

Next release 0.4.2 should also be published on F-Droid with push support using UnifiedPush.

In other news, thanks to Joshua, NeoChat now supports push notifications based on UnifiedPush.

Interestingly, the Element X issue regarding implementing UnifiedPush, has not been updated, and there is no related merge request that I can find. NeoChat appears to have their changes buried in merge requests.

Fossify Contacts (fork of Simple Contacts) and Fossify SMS Messenger (fork of Simple SMS Messenger) have been released on F-Droid.

Other Fossify apps available for download on F-Droid:

(ICYMI, Simple Mobile Tools suite was acquired by an adware company and their apps on the Google Play Store now contain trackers and unnecessary permissions. This report from Exodus shows that the old version of Simple Gallery had 0 trackers and 10 permissions, whereas the app, after sale, contains 9 trackers and 21 permissions!)

About Fossify: Fossify is all about community-backed, open-source, and ad-free mobile apps. A fork of the SimpleMobileTools, which is no longer maintained, and we’re here to continue the legacy, bringing simple and private tech to everyone.

Hi guys, I'm a blackberry keyone user and I'm pretty much used to. Due it have only 3 gigs of ram I began to use Mini Desktop launcher, that goes only to 40 mb of consumption. My doubt is, there's another lightweight launcher outside the non distraction ones? (Olaunche, ulauncher, mlauncher...)

This thread is ONLY to talk about Keyboards, Notes, Maps and Music Players. I add video Music Players because probably some people want to know about good FOSS alternatives.

Little context

spoilerWhy not build a megathread with the best and most reliable FOSS apps too help someone who want to join on the bright side of open source?

We (because this is not from me, this is from us) need to share thoughts, ideas and all things you want to say. Dont be shy. Upvote the comments you like and agree; disagree and tell why you disagree. This is will be different from others threads because this need a proper user opinion, and your opinions will be VERY important to build this. In short, your opinions and thoughts will be the fundamental source to build this.

I will read ALL comments to build this. Even if this has a million comments, I’m going to waste time reading it. Whatever it takes.

Your opinions about it are CRUCIAL and FUNDAMENTAL, because your opinions is the main-base to build the megathread.

Please, consider share your ideas and thoughts about apps on previous threads. Your opinions are really important to build final megathread. You can upvote or downvote posts so that comments gain strength and agreement between the community.

Basically title. I waited on installing F droid for a long time because my phone threw many scary warnings when I tried a long time ago. But now I have it, and I got some fossify apps, but since there is no "Editor's Picks" on F- droid I dont really know where to go from here.

What apps do you recommend I install first to remove my dependence on closed ecosystems?

What is my vulnerability surface ie, which sort of apps should I watch out for?

Are there any bad faith companies in the open source sphere?

• Firefox now displays images and descriptions for search suggestions when provided by the search engine.

• The translations feature received an improvement in the quality of translated webpages. The results should be much more stable. This fixes issues where the content of a page could disappear when translated, or interactive widgets could break.

• Firefox now supports creating and using passkeys stored in the iCloud Keychain on macOS.

• MDN Web Docs article suggestions from Firefox Suggest will be available in the address bar for users searching for web development-related information.

• The line breaking rules of Web content now match the Unicode Standard. This improves Web Browser compatibility for line breaking. An additional improvement for East Asian and South East Asian end users, Firefox now supports proper language-aware word selection when double-clicking on text for languages including Chinese, Japanese, Burmese, Lao, Khmer, and Thai.

• Firefox now ships with a new .deb package for Linux users on Ubuntu, Debian, and Linux Mint.

• Various security fixes.

Firefox for Android

• Firefox for Android can now be set as the default PDF reader.

• Firefox for Android now supports enabling Global Privacy Control. With this feature, Firefox informs websites that the user doesn’t want their data to be shared or sold. This feature is enabled by default in private browsing mode and can be enabled in normal browsing in Settings → Enhanced Tracking Protection -> Tell websites not to share & sell data toggle.

• To reduce user fingerprinting information and the risk of some website compatibility issues, the OS version is now always reported as "Android 10" in Firefox for Android's User-Agent string.

• Various security fixes.

Earth's uniqueness in creating a stable environment for life in a completely hostile space is a miracle. Various life forms have taken billions of years to build up the natural resources humans depend on, such as a protective atmosphere, fertile soil, stable weather, and clean drinking water. As a movement to democratize technology development and knowledge creation, open source has the potential to become the central driver in preserving this stability. Open Sustainable Technology's mission is to gather projects that preserve natural ecosystems through open technology, methods, data, intelligence, knowledge or tools.

After a lot of work (cause I’m new to it), I published my first Docker image!

Nephele is an open source WebDAV server written by yours truly. I’ve been using it for about a year now on my own home server. It basically acts as my self hosted cloud storage and all of my PCs and my family’s PCs back up to it. It’s FOSS, so use it for your own project. :)

I like using thunderbird to have all my emails in the same place, in a unified inbox. This doesn't allow me to access my inbox on my phone etc though, so I'm looking for a FOSS way to solve this problem.

My idea would be to selfhost a website, like a webmail site, that has the functionality of connecting to different mail servers and unifying the inbox to get all my mail in the same place. Should be accessible by android phones and iPads.

Is there a better way to do this? Maybe with nextcloud? If anyone has an idea, let me know.

Looking to replace most of the Microsoft garbage with functional, native, good-looking apps.

Already using FluentWeather, FluentCast, Screenbox, Wino Mail, Unigram, AniMoe (Anilist client)...

Wanted Windows to ID Fluetro PDF as a PDF app, but for some reason that isn't happening...

Any other suggestions are also welcome...

If I create a OSS app with analytics to detect & log crashes with feature use, is it a bad practice? I think analytics is really helpful in finding:-

  • which features are worth developing &
  • which bugs needs to be solved first.

Edit...

Things Collected

  • IP Address for use ping (for country)
  • All crashes with IP
  • Feature use with IP Crashes are store for upto 6 months to solve bug but rest are collected and delete after 3 months

It is opt-out but user are informed about it during first / install time. To disable analytics Settings --> Privacy

I want to know right way to introduce analytics in OSS
