MODERATORS

Hi guys just wanted to know if Lemmy has any karma count for people in their profile like Reddit has? If so is it public and How can I access it? Edit: Thanks guys I'm so relieved that this kind of stuff is not prevalent here. I love the Fediverse ❤️

Nope. Post and comment scores are just that - scores. They have zero impact on your account or you standing on your instance. Whether you care about them or not is entirely up to you.

There are exceptions, I think Piefed (see !piefed_meta@piefed.social ) calculates and uses it in a couple ways.

And some communities like !pleasantpolitics@slrpnk.net autoban people with low karma scores I think. Using !santabot@slrpnk.net.

TBH: It does sound bad, but it is one of the best ways to lower the effort needed for moderating. Currently every idiot from every instance can show up in your community and start spamming. You have to clean up after you're back from work and have other things to do. Set a reasonable limit on account age and karma and that will keep the biggest idiots, because they will be banned or downvoted to oblivion before they can start posting in your turf.
