They're owned by Epic so I'm not sure how much of this decision is theirs.

Yeah epic seem to be going the way of "why make more games when one game can be bigger" that one game being Fortnite. It will not surprise me if in a few years all of the studios they bought not too long ago will only be working on fortnite versions of games they used to make. Rocket League will disappear soon I bet.

They're basically turning Fortnite itself into a console in a way. Or maybe a really elaborate storefront I guess? Even though you don't buy the games.
