This is a weird one.

At first I thought someone cloned the gameplay, which is not copyrightable or trademarkable. However, it appears the assets themselves are identical, which is legally a problem. But it seems there was no provocation to cause this?

Is this a very advanced marketing tactic, where the developer is also the alleged thief, and they are lying to try to advertise their game?

I read somewhere it was two friends and that they shared code, it is just weird in general.

The other article circulating said the artwork was original as well as the code.

I was curious and went on steam. This guy just rips off games. He's "cloned" 3 separate games, all of which just seem like shitty versions of the original. Barely even changes the titles.

That's a game of legal Russian roulette I wouldn't want to play. Eventually he's going to rip off the wrong person, and in the meantime all his victims have the option of sitting on their claims (SOL notwithstanding) to find out if he ever makes any money.
