My solution for this is just to not spend money in game

Then they wonder why I have 2000 hours in the $30 game Satisfactory and haven't logged anything in my favorite multiplayer games. Apples and oranges I know, but why do I want to be sold to constantly?

I'm cool with getting an hour of entertainment from a game for every initial dollar I spend and 2 hours per dollar on everything I buy in game after that. But I don't really play competitive games online either.

I know a lot of people probably won't agree and it's Lemmy, so at least 10% of the people reading this are instantly pissed I don't exclusively play FOSS games. 🤷🏻😂

If there's one thing I disagree with it's your generalisation of Lemmy, unlike Reddit or other centralised social media, there is no overarching culture and ethos that you can sum up in one specific description. Because of its federated nature, you cannot predict the mentality of Lemmy users, every instance is its own thing, and there may be so many reasons why someone would use Lemmy

Is 10% a generalization? I dunno, it's just personal experience. Sorry you feel the need to defend the other Lemmings. I just kinda meant it as a joke anyway.

Yeaaah I don't exactly buy that. The foss and linux community in general has a massive share here, independent of instance. Also socialism or anti-corporation / anti-capitalism is extremely prevalent.
