I’m not a knower. Context?

The CIA secretly discovered and then raised from the seabed fragments of a lost soviet submarine in the 60s, in order to obtain soviet nuclear secrets and warheads. Some bodies were recovered with the wreckage.

Even though it was a super secret operation and the middle of the cold war, the CIA put together a respectful and moving funeral ceremony for the soviet submariners onboard the recovery ship, and they were then buried at sea. The ceremony was filmed and later, after it was declassified, the ceremony was shared with the soviet leadership and the known families of the submariners.

How was a cold war CIA agent that classy?

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 12 points 10 months ago

Don't know, but one of them decided that lobotomys were a step to far for them to combat communism.

[–] andrewrgross@slrpnk.net 4 points 10 months ago

Could be a double agent.

With the CIA, I don't know if your can ever really be too paranoid. The could war was wild.

People are people. We just always demonize the ones we disagree with. But it’s that demonization of others that makes people commit true evil acts

I heard the ending of "Titanic" was very sad. But then, Leonardo DiCaprio dies and we got a happy ending after all!

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Wait. Did you watch it in a massage parlor?

Blame the meme, not the memer.

When you're in a shitty naval ensign competition and the opponent is the USSR (you just brought your regular flag)

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Just to clarify, the US Naval Ensign, while technically distinct, is in fact fully identical to the “standard” national flag.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 3 points 10 months ago

Exactly, but that was the joke. That, and the USSR one being ugly as hell

Boys good! Girls yucky!

Seriously, what are you? 12?

[–] drugo@sh.itjust.works 7 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

While taking memes seriously is clearly a sign of maturity

[–] sagrotan@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

Burrrrn. Lol

[–] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Yeah, okay. At least I'm not the one making unfunny jokes that a 12-year-old would make.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Why do you think girls are yucky?

[–] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I don't. I was making fun of this post.

It is using the age-old "girls vs boys" trope, and therefore juvenile.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

But I don't think girls are yucky either, on the contrary I'm actually a huge fan. I'm not sure I understand what you're getting at.

[–] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 10 months ago (3 children)

The point that the meme template you're using is sexist, as it implies that women are shallow and care about "dumb" things, like romantic movies, while men are cool and care about "smart" topics like history and politics.

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 2 points 10 months ago

I disagree. I think the point of this format is showing how we are emotional about different stuff. Most women and men are touched by different things, and this meme has been a way of saying "do you all guys also get emotional when thinking about this" often depicting absurd stuff but it's fun when we guys find out we are the same. And the less sense it makes the funnier. If we are talking about being men it's because it's the most common trait between individuals in this community

[–] Soulg@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Completely disagree, you're thinking of the one that's about girls VS boys with a time machine

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Thats quite CIS-gendered of you. Im not sure if Lemmy is the apropriate place for your heteronormative microaggression

[–] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, that's not what cisgender or any variant thereof means.

Also, we're describing a stereotype, not saying it's true. Don't shift blame or topic.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Which stereotypes are you describing?

[–] EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Now you're just playing stupid, obviously to troll, a game I am not willing to play.

Goodbye.
