Trump:

"Like I said, some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die."

Pete Hegseth:

"The dumb, politically correct wars of the past were the opposite of what we're doing here. They had vague objectives with restrictive, minimalist rules of engagement. No more. Our authorities are maxed out. Our capabilities are overwhelming and gathering still, as are those of our Israeli partners. Our munitions are full up and our will is ironclad, which means our timeline is ours and ours alone to control as long as it takes…"

Mike Johnson:

"We are not at war. We have no intention of being at war. The Department of War has made it very clear -- this is a limited operation. It's an operation that is limited in its scope and duration."

Gotta make sure we're clear when they're inconsistent, especially when they can't get their story straight. It can't be a Department of War or Defense whenever you want it to be.

He really thought, this would be over fast. A decapitation attack, Khameni dies and he's the hero of the people. Supressed Iranians start a civil war he supports, everybody congratulates him on the good job and everybody forgets he diddled kids. That didn't work as even the oppressed Iranians really hate the US and will not work with him. So he now has to prep the Kurds in Iraq to fight his war and needs some other BS excuse for an invation.

Meanwhile his bud Bibi is having the time of his life bombing schools & hospitals.

Every war ever started was going to end in a quick, overwhelming victory that would solve all their problems.

"It could last six days, six weeks. I doubt six months."

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 hours ago

Who would have guessed that people would be angry if you attacked them?

Just planning for a couple of false flag attacks, national emergency to allow Trump to stay in power and have a little coup d'etat. No biggie. Just keep watching as it slowly happens.

We have never cancelled an election, not even during the Civil War. There is absolutely NO acceptable excuse for suspending an election. NONE.

[–] Asfalttikyntaja@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

So who’s going to stop him?

The Governors of the states. The states manage elections. They don't have to listen to the Federal government when they say don't have an election. The Feds have no say on this, despite all their whining.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It depends on the states. I won't be surprised if some states cancel their elections because the incumbents don't want to risk the results not being what they want.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 2 hours ago

There are ambitious MAGAs in those states, too, who won't be happy about not getting their chance to enjoy the corruption. What about down ballot offices that have term limits, and the holder has to leave? There are people retiring, and need to be replaced.

We can't just cancel elections for Congressional races. There are too many other important state and local races.

Reichtagsbrand incoming.

Trump wants a domestic soil attack, so that he can destabilize domestic politics further.

[–] redbrick@lemmy.world 13 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

interesting...when you play with conspiracy theories...this gets interesting...but we do live in a horrible movie drama timeline.

[–] jaxxed@lemmy.world 10 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

You have a point that there is no real evidence for what I said.

[–] ArachnidMania@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

There is some actual evidence to that actually: link from gravitas_deficiency above When you don't catch plans, you make it easier to just let it happen, and use it as justification for your goals.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 1 points 2 hours ago

It worked with 9/11

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 13 points 11 hours ago

Nope, but it makes total sense. I'd put it under highly likely category.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 71 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

I’m… honestly both in awe and aghast at how fucking blatant the regime is being about it. They’ve literally shut down the team that is in charge of addressing and categorizing security threats to the US originating from Iran immediately before starting a fucking war with Iran. Like… I just… what the actual fuck. I can’t even.

Between this and the documents leaked about their plans for the election, the intent couldn’t be more obvious if they put it on a fucking billboard. I hate that it comes down to such imbecilically stupid and petty US political bullshit like that, and that it’s killing so many people and fucking up so may other parts of the world… but seriously, I really think that was a massive part of their rationale here. It’s a distraction (operation Epstein fury), combined with creating an extremely obvious opening for an asymmetrical/terroristic threat that will be used as a justification for removing the electoral process. That’s the plan.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 23 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Yeah the point is almost certainly to scare congress into letting him stay in power as a national emergency. The false flags are being printed right now

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

They want an excuse for martial law to shut down the midterms

[–] Jaysyn@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

You don't get to stay in office after your term is up without winning an election. Full stop.

Or Trump’s pedo guard will do a domestic terrorism on protesters and blame it on Iran.

[–] illi@piefed.social 29 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

"...but that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make."

[–] DeuxChevaux@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

...until the leopard eats his face...

[–] leftzero@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 5 hours ago

They already thought of that.

They got the leopard so obscenely obese on MAGAT faces that it died of heart failure.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 10 points 12 hours ago

Wow, that's the Lord Kumquat's quote there
