These games are hard to tolerate with their uber cringe dialogue. No one talks to anyone the way people talk to each other in these games. It’s obviously been filtered through a half dozen sensitivity filters and it’s just so hard to listen to.

I'm not saying the dialogue is good, but I don't think sensitivity filters or whatever are the issue, it's just bad writing, and it doesn't seem to be a priority to spend time creating a compelling story.
I understand the game is not, and never was, story focused. But that doesn't mean it needs to have the absolute worst, most insufferable dialogue ever written by man. It was so impressively bad in FH5 that turning dialogue volume down to 0 was a very common suggestion to improve the overall experience. If you're gonna write such low quality dialogue for a game that doesn't really need it, and then have it voiced over with the absolute worst direction possible so it sounds even worse then it is, then you might as well just leave it out. Nobody's gonna miss it.
I 100% agree, and wish they'd invest some more resources into making the dialogue passable. I could be wrong, but it seems to have only gotten worse with each new game. Hopefully (though I'm not holding my breath) FH6 can break that trend...
I wish there was a game like this that had crash physics like beamng. it's actually really fun to try not to fuck up your car because it has actual consequences
That is unfortunately the price to pay for having cars with original licenses, the licence givers don't like to see their cars broken and mangled. It is not positiv for the brand marketing.
I know i'm just a bitter old man and this isnt a rant worth reading about. I just need to get it out of my system. Feel free not to read it or downvote it after you read it anyway while you realize it truly wasnt worth it.
Its going to be the best racing game of the year probably. Its going to be the choice for most people who just want a fun AAA simcade racer.
But i just watched a preview and it still hasnt improved on anything i was critical of in FH3 10 years ago. Which also means if you unlike me like Horizon you wont be dissappointed. Yay(unironic).
But personally as a bitter old man really dont know why i should pay for the same game 4th time in a row. I'm so whelmed. Also i'm a bit annoyed how the marketing team in the announcement purposefully pushed my buttons as a racing enthusiast and long time Forza fan. They didnt lie. But i still feel a bit cheated after seeing whats what with independent reporting on the preview.
And yeah my comment is as vague as it gets. But i dont feel like writing a 10k word essay about my feelings on the franchise. I just need to vent a bit because i would be so happy about a new title i could be excited about in this almost dead genre.
Also, just fuck Microsoft. Also fuck TAA which is visible through YT compression.
Wah, wah, wah, etc.
Alright, thats it. I hope you guys/gals gonna have a more pleasant day i had today.
Yeah it's been pretty much the same game since Horizon 3 with new maps. All of the menus were the same, with different UI shapes and colors and all of the background processes were the same. I'm hoping they finally changed some stuff with 6, especially after so much of a gap, but I'm not holding my breath. It'll be cool to be in a new map for the first time in a while.
I'm not really indepth familiar with the series. But if every new entry feels like a simple DLC, then I can understand why people get upset. While I do not expect a revolution with every new entry, they should be distinct in some ways. At least after multiple entries. The engine improves, new console generations and new developers.
What I expect is, same engine and developers from Horizon 5, but with new setting. As someone who never got into the series before, this is actually exactly what I want!
I played the fuck outta the last two, but they were basically the same game. From what I've seen, not a lot has changed. There's other driving games out there doing new things, so I have no incentive to start playing horizon 6.
The weekly challenges started feeling more like a chore than a fun experience, and the more or less required multiplayer races were usually awful. It would almost always be me and one other decent racer and the other 4 guys were garbage, you could lose the series even getting first in all the races because your team sucked so hard. I would often take an early lead then use my car to block the CPU cars, then after my teammates all got a solid lead I'd start racing again and usually get back into first.
Agreed about the weekly challenges. Horizon 5 became my most played Horizon game solely because my buddy and I went for 40 points every single week until new cars started being recycled, then we stopped. By the middle of it, we'd log in, rush to do the weekly stuff, often getting stuck on The Trial for several attempts, finally get the 40 and just quit for the week because we were out of time. It was definitely more of a chore. I only started having fun with the game again after it came out on PS5 which, funnily enough coincided with the end of new cars being added to the game. No more weekly anything, finally just playing for fun again.
And now it's time to do it all over again.
Yeah, I think I got every weekly for the first two years and lots of times I never even drove the reward cars lol.
Good luck with 6, while I'm sure it'll be great I am just not ready for another horizon.
What you describe is not unique to this game. Would you pay for this if it was a DLC to Forza 5? I see it as "more content", but with a new game engine and setting. I don't think that every new entry of a game in a series needs to revolutionize. I am okay with a new style or setting, with slight improvements and lots of new content. That's what a new entry in a series should be (at least for racing games). As long as it is not like the yearly sports game updates FIFA in example.
And it's alright to talk about stuff you want to, to get it out of your chest. This is a forum and a perfectly valid place (so a game review would be too). It's good to see what other people are bothered with, because it could be a reason not get into in example. I never played Horizon game before, so cannot judge how it feels for you. For me, this is the first time I'm really really interested into the game series, as I (and many others) love the Japan setting.
Meh.
It's a twice a decade racing game...
There doesn't need to be huge changes, people like the game for what it is, it just needs occasional updates.
If this game out a year after Forza 5, then criticism for lack of changes is valid.
I miss the carpg elements from the first horizon game.
I've heard they are back for this one ?
Hmmm I'll habe to look into it. I seriously doubt it, though.
SkillUp said so in his preview video at least.
If the caRPG elements you meant is not having access to the best cars from the start and unlocking them as you.
Yeah kinda, or the incentive to have a car you keep amping up with new gear and parts rather than it being cheaper and easier to just buy a new car.
Like forza horizon 1, the upgrades felt expensive and meaningful and new cars were so expensive. Could be nostalgia goggles though
The same as the "new and improved" [thing]
well fucking duh, nobody is advertising their shitty half-assed thing now, are they?
Setting looks sick, if it has actually has some rpg elements again I might be in for the first time since 3.
That said, their dlc schemes have been horrific in the past, and I’m sure they’ll be just as bad now. Also I’d be surprised if they can make the racing feel like it matters. I know it’s a simcade kind of game, but the racing is a lame joke compared to LMU, AC, etc.
Tangentially related, shout out to Japanese Drift Master, a drifting simcade. Way lower budget and kinda jank, but I had a lot of fun with it. Super engaging drifting, you actually have to work for upgrades and better cars, the visuals and map are surprisingly sweet for a pretty low budget game, and the story is actually good
