Hey everyone,

I’ve been trying to find a community-made GitHub project that can fill the gap left by Soggfy, which I used daily until it stopped getting updates.

What I am looking for is something focused on Spotify, since its library is much larger than most alternatives and my Likes include local artists and bands that are not available elsewhere.

I have already done some digging online, but most of what I found was dead ends or tools that did not really match what I need. I also tried a few similar options, but none of them felt like a proper replacement.

Ideally, I am looking for a tool that:

Is free and maintained by the community on GitHub Works directly with Spotify as the main source Offers Spotify as a primary or alternative source in its download options

If anyone knows of a tool that fits this use case, I would really appreciate the recommendation.

Most have given up developing Spotify tools after the latest API rug-pull

I know this is the piracy comm, so this is a bit antithetical, but if it’s mostly for smaller/local bands considering just buying their albums on Bandcamp. Or maybe there’s a kind soul on SoulSeek that is already a fan of the groups you’re looking for.

Every tool I knew of that could pull from Spotify has shut down one by one over the last year or so. As such, I’m also interested in what other folks have to say in this thread.

Monochrome is my current go-to, though it's Tidal instead of Spotify, and it's also been spotty. Velune on Android.

Sorry if these are stupid questions, but how safe is to use these apps? Can we get into trouble if we use them without a VPN?

monochrome does make direct connections to tidal, use a vpn if you're cautious. i don't though..

Random, but why even bother with Spotify in 2026? Ytm has larger library, the audio quality isn't worse anymore (I even hear some songs sound better on YTM), feels like there are more plugins/extensions for anything YouTube. There are also playlist downloaders so you can organize your library locally.

Recently started using this with the lyrics addon and it just looks so visually pleasing, unlike Spotify.

YTM is better than Spotify Lossless?

[–] Mttw_@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

You can't get lossless with any spotify mod. All spotify mods are capped at free account quality (128kbps iirc) because spotify api premium check happens server side.

Any mod that says otherwise is a scam at best, malware at worst.

Note: i'm only talking about spotify custom apk mods. Local lossless download tools are legit and can download lossless (eg votify) with a premium paid account.

Thx for making me aware of votify.

Need to rip my library fory local jellyfin server

Also interested in this question as an avid Soggfy user.

My current work around that is still successfully working is to install the mainline Spotify client and download a playlist so that I am able to play the files locally, then reinstalling soggfy and play the playlist from the local files to rip what I need.

It is an extra step or two which is annoying for sure but it is still working as of two days ago for me.
