Tbf there's the South and there's Alabama and Mississippi South.

And Louisiana, sometimes. And Georgia, obviously. Florida.

Texas... Okay, it's the whole South.

But at least that cancer hasn't spread to the Midwestern states!

Ohio checking in.......why do we have confederate flags in northern Ohio? Hell the only thing seperating us from Canada is a god damn lake!!! How much more north can you get???

Idahoan checking in here. Yeah, Confederate flags were a constant sight throughout my time living there (born and raised, just emigrated at 25yo)

I seem to recall that you guys and Michigan had a "war" over that exact question......

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Oh yeah.....we lost. We got stuck with toledo....

[–] TheRealKuni@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

And we got the beautiful, mineral-rich upper peninsula. Pretty good trade in the end!

Nova Scotia here, even we’ve got ‘em.

I went to Ohio to visit family as a teen in the 90s and it was normal. I went again as an adult and suddenly everyone I wasn't related to had a southern accent and was very....banjo duel....

WTF happened to you Ohio?!

[–] Railing5132@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

It's the same across all the Midwest - Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, the Dakotas... I don't even think the Dakotas were states during the Civil War, but there's the loser-traitor flag all over across the upper Midwest.

And Arkansas. Been through that state and in some of those small towns, as much as they don’t want to be known that way, it’s true.

The KKK Embraces Diversity in Harrison, Arkansas

Except of course for parts of Michigan. Missouri. Ohio. Iowa. Rural Illinois and Minnesota...

Fuck, how's the northeast doing?

Indiana. Don't forget that South Bend is basically the home of the third wave of the Klan.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

During the peak of the Second Klan in the 20’s, roughly 1/3 white people in Indiana were Klan members.

The only time I think about Indiana is memorial day weekend and I want to keep it that way.
