so you're fine if your doctor practices medicine without any degree?

you find it acceptable if a surgeon performed open heart surgery on a family member without any experience in human anatomy?

in your perspective it's preferred to have an EMT have the training and life experience of a taxi driver?

Not the user you replied to, but:

For cabinet positions, no, I wouldn't want a non-expert.

But, for congress, other than legal requirements the only real "qualification" in my opinion is the ability to read.

Congress is supposed to be average people that represents the interests of the people. Its totally fine for someone with a highschool degree / GED to be a representative, as long as they can understand the legislations they vote on. They are supposed to have staff that helps them with understanding the bills to be voted on.

Even for the president, its still just being a representative of the people, they should know how to choose qualified people for cabinet, and defer to expert opinion.

TLDR:

Congressmembers represent their district/state. President represents the country
(Or at lesst that's what they were supposed to be doing)

They don't have to be the experts themselves.

Cabinet on the other need to be experts in their field.
Similar with the Judicial branch, they need to be experts on the law.
