Being told you're a nihilistically violent extremist that should be locked up sure sounds like an impetus to, i dunno, have no hope for the future and in turn be more receptive to extremist actions, even violent ones, no?

That's the point.

If you can push a minority group into desperation, then you get to play the moral high ground when they act out of desperation. It's not a new trick by any means.

Nah, even if the minority group doesn't do anything, "yes they are. They're being evil and doing evil things just over there where you're not looking, and that's why bad things are happening to you. The only way to stop them is to give me power."
