I had interactions with a few, and they were very much the typical, stupid, bigoted yank
it's crazy how you used the word bigoted and a slur in the same sentence.

yes.
it's no different than calling an Italian a wop or a chink for an Asian.

yank is short for Yankee, which was a slur used for Americans during the revolutionary war.
