Hey all, feel free to delete if sharing YT videos isn't permitted, but I made a video on the Fediverse last week and specifically talking about Mastodon, Lemmy, Pixelfed, and Peertube.

Just thought I'd share in case anyone wanders by and wants an overview.

It's gotten a pretty good response, despite my channel being smaller. I think a lot of folks just don't realize that there's viable, enjoyable social media that is ad, AI, and algo-free.

I truly think most people would be receptive to the idea if they could just hear about it. The big corporate sites have so many problems.

Our two biggest obstacles in my opinion: a) the "instances" setup is mildly confusing for new users. b) Once you get here, the predominant culture is pretty homogenous and, to put it politely, politically intense.

politically intense

PieFed is good about being able to easily filter that stuff out, it's better than Lemmy, it even asks if you want that when you signup

to put it politely, politically intense.

You think?

One of the things I love about the Fediverse is how easy it is to avoid political content. So many good filtering settings under the hood, especially on Mastodon, but with Lemmy you can just subscribe to non-political content and make your subs your default home page.

We can be intense though.
