There were some expansions after the "HD" edition on Steam in 2013, namely: The Forgotten, African Kingdoms, and Rise of the Rajas. Then DE came out including everything that came before plus one new expansion. And since its release, it has had 6 expansions, one of which brought (in addition to a new civ, the Romans) the entire gameplay of Age of Empires 1 as a separate game-mode.
It's pretty wonderful how much support we're getting for such an old game. But at least to me—as someone who plays the game regularly and keeps up to date with its news—it's not at all surprising.
I mean, I dont think it's controversial to say it is surprising that a game had an expansion in 2000 but and then only had any other after the HD re-release in 2013. 13 years is an eternity in gaming. That's my only point; I dont think it has anything to do with keeping "up to date".
Yeah sure, but what's not surprising is another expansion coming out in March 2024, given the history of the game between October 2013 and October 2023. This expansion is certainly surprising if you didn't have all that history.
Sure. I'll be more clear next time. I think my original point still stands.
