Not op, but honestly... I'm a patient gamer, I usually play game years after it releases, so in this case I wouldn't even know about it.
But there are games where the first thing I see after launching it is an ad for some cosmetic bullshit, half the main menu consist of just links to real life money shop, load screens are just another ad for cut content, etc.
So all in all I would say these are different things. Although I agree paywall anything in single player is bad even when it's time limited. Not counting regular DLC (data discs or expansions as we used to call those before internet).
