Welcome

We're not The Onion! Not affiliated with them in any way! Not operated by them in any way! All the news here is real!

The Rules

Posts must be:

  1. Links to news stories from...
  2. ...credible sources, with...
  3. ...their original headlines, that...
  4. ...would make people who see the headline think, “That has got to be a story from The Onion, America’s Finest News Source.”

Comments must abide by the server rules for Lemmy.world and generally abstain from trollish, bigoted, or otherwise disruptive behavior that makes this community less fun for everyone.

And that’s basically it!

I guess it's a zero tolerance policy here. Just like reddit, but that's fine, we have options here.

The difference is that banning people on the fediverse is beyond pointless. Especially if you're not a branless powermod.

Making a new reddit account was trivial to anyone willing to put in a little effort as well. It's not pointless though because I'm sure it does stop some unmotivated bad actors. Mod tools here definitely leave something to be desired right now however.

But it's different because if I feel the need to make some flippant violent comment again there are communities hosted elsewhere that won't take it so seriously. This is a good thing. dot world admins have every right to run their instance and remove content as they wish. Hosting a large instance takes a lot of work.
