Original marathon series was amazing- as was bungie in general back then. Really did amazing work like no one else at the time. I miss those days.
It blows me away that they had all this lore and setting that would have made a great modern remake; most people didn’t game on the Mac and never experienced any of it.
Instead we get…whatever this is gonna be?
Especially after Microsoft swooped in and took away Halo from Mac gamers to thrust Microsoft into the gaming space just felt like a slap in the face. And now they shit all over what little we did have back then. Stupid move, IMHO.
Microsoft got Halo, but even you have to agree Halo was amazing.
But after Halo Reach, Bungie wasn't contracted with Microsoft anymore (as Bungie was not considered a subsidiary like they are with Sony). Whatever Bungie is doing now is 100% created by Bungie, including their internal problems and total disregard for their own legacy IPs.
Like, I get Lemmy users have a militantly aggressive opinion about Microsoft, but they're not the Boogeyman this time.
Very few games, let alone FPS', have stories that hit Me like Marathons. I loved their idea of AI being created through boredom and insanity.
