Are playstation games that bad?

[–] szczuroarturo@programming.dev 19 points 2 months ago

No they are not. In Fact they are one of the best games being made right now . Alghtough they are getting a tad too similar to each other. Also there is just mot enough of them being made

Some might be, but the Horizon games (including the PC ports) are bonafide masterpieces and I personally love the Assassin's Creed RPG trilogy and Rock Band 🤷

I'll take your word for it but I never played it myself since I'm not really into the whole survival genre 🤷

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh my god you’re missing it. It isn’t a survival game. It is a masterpiece of story telling.

I haven’t played it since the month it was released, but thinking about it still makes the hairs on my arms stand up. Within 5 minutes of playing the game I was on an emotional rollercoaster. It might be the only game I ever played that hit me that hard, with Red Dead 2 trailing it by a mile despite being the best game I’ve played in years.

You are cheating yourself if you never play it. I do not like survival games either, at all. Not even a little bit. The Last of Us might be the greatest game ever made.

It's like you get to play the main character in a movie - a really good movie. I would agree, it's one of the best games ever!

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Yes! This is how it felt to me. I would have been almost as happy just to see it as an animated movie. It was amazing and took games as a whole forward, and you knew it within the first few minutes of playing it. Like, I legit felt like that was the moment that games truly crossed over into art. That is kind of an exaggeration, but not by a lot. Damn I want to buy it and play it on my Steam deck haha. I still have my ps3 copy but no ps3.

[–] BruceTwarzen@lemm.ee 4 points 2 months ago

If you like story driven games, it's pretty good, if you look for good gameplay, this is not it.

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Your comment made me go and buy it for my Steam deck. Even knowing what is coming I’m having a blast 11 years later. I have already bawled my eyes out and I’ve forgotten enough that I can’t wait to get into it fully again.

Thank you.

Please play it. Seriously. Do it for me and come back to me. If I wasn’t so damn poor I’d buy it for you. If nothing else watch the opening part on YouTube and see if it doesn’t hook you.

The Last of Us is as much of a survival game as Elden Ring is a toddler-level Peppa Pig clone. You are crazy to pass from playing TLoU it is a fucking magnum opus chefs kiss of a video game.

~~Their PC ports are typically trash as far as performance goes~~ i was thinking of EAs star wars PC ports. Sony games themselves are pretty good though. Sony has a horrible (and well deserved) reputation with online gaming though.

I've had good performance via Proton, at least when it comes to Spider-Man and Stray.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

Interesting, that's good to hear. I'm actually going to revise my comment as now that I'm thinking about it, the ports I'm thinking of are EA (star wars)

[–] TragicNotCute@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Astrobot is pretty dope. They make a number of pretty great games.

[–] johannesvanderwhales@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

People don't like that they're wanting them to log into a psn account. But otherwise the ports are fine and the games are great (if you like the kinds of games that they make).

[–] Famko@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Mind you a large portion of gamers outside of the countries that have PSN just cannot buy any ports, so we're shit out of luck.

I'd love to pay Sony for God of War Ragnarok, but they refuse to take my money.

[–] finestnothing@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (3 children)

The games themselves are still good overall - but they're forcing that you need a psn account in order to play them. It started with helldiver's 2, it was wildly popular - then a few months after launch they started forcing that you had to have a connected psn account in order to play even though they said it was optional when it launched.

[–] Stern@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

In Helldiver 2's case it was optional because it was broke on launch, then they added it in later and folks felt like they were bait n' switched.

Sony will learn the same lesson the other big companies learned. More hoops = less players. Its not like there's a shortage of good PC games out there.

[–] camr_on@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

They walked it back now, but the damage is done. A lot of people think you need it still, and a lot of people from countries without PSN just can't play at all
