OK, Factorio I totally get, but how the fuck is DayZ back? Like, what the actual shit? Did they finally make an actual game?
NGL, DayZ has improved massively over the last few years. (I too had a very dim view of it after they took a massive step back moving from mod->Standalone)
Also, they made the Livonia DLC free and launched the Frostline DLC.
DayZ is the game which definitely prevented me to buy any early access game anymore
Same. Bohemia Interactive’s rep took a big hit (in my mind, at least) so I’m a lot more cautious.
This is after I backed the Arma3 Supporter Edition and had to wait like 6 hours after general release to play. Sadtimes.
Have they managed to do anything about the absolute death spiral that the culture of the game suffered?
I think that's really what turned me away. I loved the mod and played it obsessively, but after standalone launched it really felt like people were no longer willing to take any chances on each other. The whole game became very much kill on sight, when it wasn't assholes just handcuffing people and feeding them bleach.
It’s a mixed bag. Bambis have nothing to lose, so you’re more likely to make friends.
I’ve had a few good runs by talking to people. You get betrayed every now and then, but it’s part of the game.
The possibility of betrayal is exactly what makes the social aspect fun. Like, I'd hate it if they somehow got rid of that. The problem I found with standalone was that you never even got to "This person might betray me," it was just shoot on sight. If I wanted that I'd play Tarkov.
I think that aspect has improved, then. The player base seems to have discovered that grouping up to take on fullgears is more fun than wrestling in the mud.
