Can I suggest sorting by new for your favorite communities? There are a lot of downvoters that have gamed the system.
I’m in this comment And I’m fine with it.
I think this is a good opportunity to collectively discuss what is causing us to lead this lifestyle.
I had to move to a country with a more introverted culture than the one I grew up in (not the US), and I've struggled finding friends to spend my free time with so far, so I spend it on apps :-( They really are just a last resort and I'd much rather spend my time with actual people like in the olden days :-/
sign up for a class/activity, wear a conversation piece.
Smart move the latter, ~didn't think it.
About the former, I recently realized in practice that it's important to pick up activities etc. that you like and that attract people you can bond with. For example I like weightlefting at gym, but I realized it attracts so many people with repulsive ideologies, while I tried dancing and mobility classes the same gym offers and the environment was much much better, I found many good people there. (I still do weightlifting though and I found some good people there too.)
Plus, voicing your opinions helps a lot to filter people (I'm struggling a lot with this though).
When I was a kid, I used to play video games while jumping around. I'd stand in front of the TV, bounce around, play Mario, run in circles. My parents didn't care.
At some point, society said that was weird, and I had a gaming chair?
Watching myself balloon (and already using a standing desk for work) went back to standing while playing video games. I enjoy it!
Everything else requires effort.
Yes. I think what makes these apps appealing is that 1) they can be used unplanned and your time in them doesnt have to be structured, and 2) they can fill up an arbitrarily long or short amount of time.
Chronic pain gang, rise up 💪 (or remain seated)
I think a lot of it is a result of our capitalistic society squeezing as much as it can from us for profit
Alright so let me begin,
Boredom breeds innovation. It's okay to be bored. In fact, I really wish our society would get "legitimately" bored more often.
So are you people in this meme just on your phone all day looking at stupid phone apps? God, what a waste of life.
Smartphones are just boring little tools guys. Don't make it your life. Be a real nerd, get a PC, and surf the web where there are no limitations set by apps. Play some video games, look at porn sites, do some online shopping or whatever. If you're done with all that, go outside and ride a bike or something.
For me my phone meme time is
- 5-10 minutes before I get out of bed in the morning
- if I’m bored at work
- Poopin
Good example of why summaries and screenshots are important
Think of the poopers
Are you actually trying to start a phone vs pc debate? That's funny as hell.
It’s disgusting how many times I’ll catch myself opening an app I closed less than 2 minutes ago because I was bored.
I've closed Lemmy and not ten seconds later open it up again.
I gave up conventional social media recently, and I do paid surveys instead. I made 225 dollars in four weeks.
Wait, where did you find this job?
Not a job, paid survey apps. HeyPiggy, Five Surveys, Qmee are the best ones.
Put down your phone. Close your eyes. Imagine one (1) thing. You're cured.
Then its timeto put down the phone/laptop/tablet, get up off your butt and move around. Maybe even do something while youre up
Eww gross but moving around can lead to death I watched a YouTube video on that. I'm not falling for that
Heres a little known secret: breathing leads to death. So stop it if you want to live forever
Lol, people here do a lot of assumptions. I typically do like ~9k steps each day, I spent a lot of time outside, go to gym etc. but 1)having hard tasks to do and 2)spending a lot of time alone (alone meaning without interacting face to face with real friends) for various reasons contributes to this.
So you have five different apps to browse Lemmy?
I remember in the early to mid 2000s when the internet was new and there seemed to be loads of stuff to do.
Was never bored
it is still the same, but we're already conditioned to have everything thrown at us on every single internet interaction, making the thought of searching something new seem like stepping out of our comfort zone
with AIs and what not, this feeling will only worsen
Time to grab your board (web navigator) and surf (follow hyperlinks) the web (more commonly, the graphical "internet"). Totally rippin the gnar, my gender indeterminate dudes (check out wikipedia). Yeaaaahhh (yes, emphatically)!!!
Go for a walk, read a book, watch a movie, play a game it will make you feel so much better. Just remember to change activities every few hours. If you're going to play games for 10h you are probably going to get bored of it way too quickly.
You play shattered pixel dungeon for the next 20 hours is what you do.
Rss and Rss and just Rss
[Got this post from there as well)
