It’s too bad Rockstar abandoned RDR2 in favor of appeasing the 12 year old kids in GTAV.

Somehow, some way, RDR2 was a finalist for Steam's 'Labor of Love' award. I was shocked.

For anyone unaware, the Labor of Love award is for games that "came out a while back, but keep getting better through updates." (ie No Man's Sky, Cyberpunk, etc)

How many times has Stardew won that award, and have they put rules in place to keep it from winning again for 1.6 next year?

[–] EncryptKeeper@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

Why would they do that? Lol

I don't understand why they didn't sell a $40 DLC for RDR2 to play the two games on one platform with the terrain mostly done. They have the Audio files. A company where a lot of money isn't enough, it has to always be the most money (shark cards).

Yeah, I'd totally buy an RDR1 DLC. I have it on my Xbox, but I'd really like to have it on my PC as well.

Just get an HDMI capture card and plug your Xbox into your PC!

My XBox's disk drive is failing, so I'd have to go fix that as well. It's easier to just repurchase the 2-3 games I actually care about on PC, if they exist...

Makes sense, I was joking anyways. Running your xbox into a HDMI capture card just to play games on your desktop is kind of silly. You might as well just plug the xbox into your monitor directly.

You underestimate how little money such a dlc makes. It's the same reason why the promised SP addon for GTA 5 was cancelled. Return of investment is magnitudes higher for any GTA online content. Making a new car model is little effort and brings in millions of dollars.

Having to deal with story, level design, voice actors and possibly animators or even Mocap: soooooo much more work. Sure they could do it, and even Earn good money with it. But online pay dlcs are so little effort for so much more payout , why even bother?

Rockstar hated what FiveM did, even threatening them at the start because they were afraid it would compete with their own online service. And now they bought them up, but only after realizing how much more people ( or rather their wallets) they can possibly reach.

That's my point, they can make some money pleasing fans and stewarding their worlds, or they can make the most money creating diamond skinned submarines that run on burritos.

I mean... You can use an emulator and upscale the resolution. It's not a "remake", but after the GTA remake fiasco, I'm not sure anybody wants more of that.

It runs at 4k on the Xbox series x also.

I just want a RDR2 Zombie Expansion

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 5 points 11 months ago

With all the crazy supernatural stuff in the game already it seems like a no brainer. But then again so is a 60fps patch for modern consoles… sigh.

I never understood why you had this huge expanse of map you couldn’t even get into until the end game. It’s like they were setting up to re-release one as a DLC and then got high on their own supply of Shark Cards.

Nope. I was holding out hope that it’d be a DLC for RDR2 or similar. But it looks like I’ll have to find an emulated copy for PC.
