Are there any patch notes for this that are not in video format?

[–] Zoot@reddthat.com 8 points 1 month ago (4 children)

Is there any easy way to install this on the Deck yet?

Can you mod games on your deck? I don't even know what a steam deck actually is lol

It's valve's console, most games are easy to mod

Not sure how the valve decks differ from steam decks but there are tons of tutorials i saw from a quick Google for how to get it on steam deck.

What? Valve is steam. An the issue is that I'm not following a23 step guide for a mod. Plenty other amazing mods have easy installers.

[–] 11111one11111@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

3 steps:

  1. Install OG FO4.

  2. Then install the mod for downgrading the version of FO4 to the one compatible with FOLON. Does all the work for you.

  3. Lastly, install the FOLON mod.

This guide couldn't be more straight forward and geared to first time modders. It only looks long because they're counting every "click OK in the following dialog box" as a step.

FOLON installation guide for steam deck!

The Steam Deck is just a Linux PC, you can absolutely mod games on it!

I’m playing modded Slay the Spire a lot on mine.

The vast majority of games that have mods have an easy way to install mods. Except total conversations like London or f3 and nv in f4

Yeah. There's some quirks.

So if you're used to modding by moving files around and editing a text file, you're right at home. Same process. Maybe some Linux quirks like running the game with some command lines flags.

If you're used to modding by clicking a few buttons on a mod manager, nah. We aren't there yet.

The Deck is just a handheld Linux computer. You'll have to install mods manually, as Nexus doesn't have a Linux application yet (it's coming, slowly), but it shouldn't be too hard. You'll have to exit Big Picture Mode and then you'll be on the Linux desktop and can do all the things a Linux computer can.

There should be somewhere that tells you how to install mods manually. It's probably a folder somewhere that you just extract the files into.

There you go, thats the issue. Either mods work great through steamworkshop, or you pray that they've created an easy installer.

I'm all for manually adding mods, been doing it since 2012. However, I got a steam deck explicitly so I'd never need a keyboard and mouse again. So far, I haven't needed either.

When London came out, it required 23+ steps with a lot of terminal commands, fuck all that is all I'm saying.

Most games don't support the Steam workshop for modding, nor should they feel the need. Sure, it's nice to have, but it has a lot of limitations. If you don't want to deal with the very minimal effort to manually move some files around, that's on you. No one is forcing you to.

I assume FO London is particularly bad because Bethesda fucked up the game with the update after the show came out, just before London released. I think it's fairly easy to fix, but you do have to do something for yourself instead of expecting others to do it for you. Again, you can choose to be lazy, but you can't always get your way if you are. It's your choice.

You are entirely missing my point. Every other game I play, including fallout have easy to install mods. I was simply curious if London was the same way.

I never asked you to do it for me. So if you can't answer the question, kindly stop messaging.

I don't have a deck but I do have a laptop with very similar specs and it has severe issues with performance. It isn't much better on my partner's GTX 1080 either.

yeah I played it on linux

Too long can't watch, are the stability issues and major bugs all cleared? at least to the level of general stability that Fallout 4 offers? I'd be interested in giving this project another go, but had a real rough time on launch.
