It feels like they've been getting devs to go through these games (including the first) to get used to how a half life game should be so they can hit the ground running when making the next one.

Feels good to have hope once more
I'm not getting my hopes up until something is released.
I'm still not convinced valve knows how to count to 3.
Even if it's nearly impossible to reach the light at the end of the tunnel, we can still find salvation and meaning in our lives by hoping we'll reach it someday.
The only other choice is to accept our doomed existence, and live a life of darkness.
Or maybe light a candle and decide to be the light yourself, no matter how small.
This is how you celebrate and maintain a legacy but well loved game. I still remember booting the game up for the first time on release day (after hours and hours of downloading haha, boy did Steam suck but look at where it is now).
It was the reason I downloaded Steam, and back in those days I was pissed that I had the CD and the box and the manual AND they wanted me to go online and download more than a gig of data on my crappy dial up.
I got the game in the morning and I only got to play it later that afternoon… and I swore I’d never use Steam for anything else again.
Fast forward 20 years and probably a few thousand bucks later 🤦🏻♂️
I had dial-up through my Mom’s work’s VPN at the time and couldn’t even sign in to Steam with it, so I had to use an AOL 30-day trial just to be able to play the game.
When both the trial and Steam’s Offline mode timing ran out, I had sufficient motivation to learn how to crack WEP so I could borrow the neighbor’s WiFi
Yeah, back then Valve was just a shitty publisher insisting on their own shitty DRM infested launcher.
Do i smell HL3?
I think Alyx is as close as you're getting to that.
Alyx was fantastic and the ending kind of teased more to come but I guess so did EP2
Ah shame - these improvements are unlikely to ever be ported to the HL2 VR mod
At least the mod didn’t break as a result, had me worried for a second there.
I wish I could play hl2. Every time I try, it gives me horrible motion sickness. I can only make it as far as when Barney gives you your crowbar before I feel like I need to vomit.
I don't know what it is about the game that causes this? I've tried adjusting fov and stuff with no success. Yet I can play Titanfall and Portal just fine.
