Wth is this article, the ring is being made in celebration of them as a watch company. It's a cute little gimmicky ring because making an anniversary watch is exactly what people expect them to do.

They didn't make a ring to compete with the Oura or Samsung's whatever. The article even mentions the Timex ring watch which was similarly made because they're celebrating 170 years of being in the business. Why even bring up smart rings/watches at all?

I'm about to release a not so smart AR Headset. Super light, It won't generate fake TV screens or give information like the apple vision pro, but it will just be tinted to help bright sunlight be less bright. Still brainstorming what to call this low tech VR/AR technology.

Don't over think it, call is the Augmented Reality Sunlight Absorption Headset with AI.

Yeah what on earth? It's not a health monitoring ring alternative, and doesn't try to be. It's a watch in ring form.

Smart rings/health monitoring rings are not the norm, I don't see why any other ring would be automatically compared to them.

It's not like many people have heard of that brand of ring, so it's not even the kind of clickbait that would attract people, like mentioning an Apple product would be, or when anything about any EV would have to have Tesla in the title (e.g. "Is this EV a Tesla KILLER???")

I'm not much of a ring wearer, I don't even wear my own wedding ring, but this one actually looks pretty neat to me. I hope the battery is as easy to replace as they claim it to be.

It’s not a smart ring, which means you can’t track your health with it

It can tell you your pulse BPM, just count how many heartbeats you get and measure one minute with the watch.

Please focus on affordable dumb TVs – thanks.

They made awesome portable TVs like uh, 30 years ago.

That and cheap and cheerful musical keyboards.

It took me years to realize that my childhood Casio keyboard played Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and that’s why I liked the song

Well that's just about the cutest darn ring I've ever seen.

[–] random_character_a@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That's so obscene I'm willing to trow some money at it.

[–] CaptKoala@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 days ago

It's the only ring I've seen in years I would actually wear.

Uhm it looks very odd, like you somehow have miniature wrists.

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Seems rather bulky for a ring also. I wonder if it snags on a lot of things while using your hands normally.

[–] TriflingToad@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 days ago

aweee it's so smol

[–] Infomatics90@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 days ago

I want this ring.

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 12 points 4 days ago

You can now give someone the finger and tell them that’s the only time you have for them

[–] milicent_bystandr@lemm.ee 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Okay I misread that title as "Casio made a One Ring alternative"

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Won't track your health, Won't prevent aids. May make you invisible to the seen realm, and draw the attention of unseen beings.

Beware the Great Eye of Google. Ever it roams, ever it watches.

Ring watches are a thing. Seen them for a while but usually they look like rings and have a flap or something

[–] mp3@lemmy.ca 9 points 4 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I like Casio watches, but yeah I'd pass.

And the comparison to a smart ring is pants-on-head stupid..

I kinda like it but rings bother me more than watches

It was either that or show that picture of Bin Laden again.
