Early depictions show a T-shaped cross so arguably, Jesus himself was only 72% crucified
The “top” part of the cross is kinda unnecessary unless you crucify upside down…. FWIW
They did that to some of the apostles, IIRC
Crucifixion was done in a multitude of ways, at the end of the day they didn’t care how you died and it was often changed to prolong the suffering if they wanted to.
Upside down, sideways, face first, face up, if the suffocation version didn’t get you exposure would.
It was designed to punish you for the rest of your life, so to speak.
