The facebook page Canada Proud often posts news updates, citing mainstream news sources. But the posts sometime add misleading details not found in the original reports, according to a review by The New York Times.

One of its posts this month said Prime Minister Mark Carney had suspended his campaign because of “connections with China” and cited a major Canadian news outlet, Global News, as its source. But the Global News article did not actually mention any connections to China.

Canada Proud describes itself as a “grass-roots group of Canadians” concerned about the country’s direction. The page is owned by Mobilize Media Group, a Toronto public affairs firm.

The company has bought more than $250,000 in ads targeting Canadian voters

Their office is downtown, go down and ask to talk to someone. Don't leave until they ask you to.

You have no obligation not to inconvenience them.

Search for the company on LinkedIn, click through its employees. Have them get a bunch of 'Appeared in Searches' notifications from LinkedIn. Make sure they feel seen by a bunch of their fellow citizens.

Jail them. You spread lies to influence elections? Jail. Bye bye.

I hope Canada does better dealing with their fascist stupid people problem than the US did.

At one point in time, when I went searching for "Canada patriotic image", this is what I got:

https://lemmy.today/pictrs/image/cd00e294-27ec-41b5-8004-03cc1ef78d59.jpeg

I don't feel like Canada is the place most-prone to nationalism in the world.

EDIT: According to Tineye, the image goes back at least to 2013. I was curious; the artist, Jessica Borutski, apparently has, in the intervening years, moved from Canada to the US to work for Nickelodeon.

Jessica is a proud Canadian who loves beavers. She is an Ottawa born artist that made her way to Los Angeles to work in the Animation Industry. She currently is a supervising director at Nickelodeon Animation.

Going to be real interesting to see where that money is coming from. My bet is some combination of the worst of the US political "thinktanks" like the federalist society, Russian assets, and mega corporations like Amazon.

[–] droopy4096@lemmy.ca 30 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

from recent reports there's a bunch of Canadian billionaires backing the effort, hoping for DOGE style purge of governmenr

[–] orclev@lemmy.world 21 points 11 hours ago

Ah, so homegrown scum. I kind of lump them under the mega corporation header though as the goal for them is to eliminate regulations and oversight so they can pillage to their hearts content. Really trying to speed run that late stage capitalism dystopia.

[–] considerealization@lemmy.ca 10 points 10 hours ago

How legal is this kind of activity? Do we not have regulations against CPAC-like activity?
