linux really is amazing at this point and I think it can take over the desktop once people realize. There are distros that are install and go without much of a learning curve at all and wine allows for running of windows programs.

Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

How ironic that much of Microsoft and all MacOS depends on Linux/Unix.

But I agree that it is great to have a whole collection of OS variants to choose from. Having used AIX and HPUX in the past, I'm happy to be able to not need to do that anymore.
