The slow downloadspeeds got on my nerves so I wanted to find some ps2 torrents and found this reddit post.

2,64TB with more than 2.000 Games. Still very good upload speed.

Why not use myrient? It seems to have every ps2 game individually and is also easy to mass download from (at least with a download manager) and the speeds are great in my experience.

[–] Sixtyforce@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 hours ago

Great speeds? Using Jdownloader2 if I go above 3.8MB/s with more than 2 connections I get throttled to worse than dial up speeds.

Occasionally it'll hit a single game that'll take days to finish for no apparent reason no matter what. It's maddening.

Still better than archive.org's broken fucking torrents that'll never ever reach 100% completion. You'd think an archival site would care to fix that after YEARS for FUCKS SAKE, but nope!

Bandwidth: €4200/$4358 per month

What could possibly go wrong

[–] UndergroundGoblin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

On myrient I only get about 500kbs.

Nothing special about it. It's just an aggregate/repack of the smaller torrents that broke them out by letter groupings. They're the same exact files otherwise.

What are some essential to play ps2 games? I somehow managed not to have ps2. I played alot on ps1 and had ps3 when games started to feel meh. Also owned ps4 but that’s like when games became pc like.

In no particular order…

  • Sly Cooper trilogy. The second game is the best, but the third has its strong points too. The first game feels like a tech demo in comparison to the second.
  • Final Fantasy X (though I’d actually recommend playing it on PC with the Untitled Project X mod)
  • Ratchet and Clank. The second and third games are the best. Deadlocked is divisive for many fans.
  • Jak and Daxter trilogy. 2 and 3 are very different from the first game.
  • GTA San Andreas.
  • Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2. Ideally you should actually play these on the PS4/PS5/PC, because those are the directors cut (Final Mix) versions of the games. You can’t skip Chain of Memories either, which was originally only available on the GameBoy Advance; Look up a plot summary if you don’t want to play CoM, because the gameplay is very different from KH1 and 2.
  • Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne, Persona 3FES, and Persona 4. Nocturne is from the mainline SMT series, while the Persona games are a spin-off. All three are available on other systems as well, (P3FES recently got a remake, for instance).
  • Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening. It’s a prequel, so you don’t need to play DMC 1 or 2 first.
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It’s also a prequel, so you don’t need to play MGS 1 or 2 first. MGS Subsistence is the director’s cut version of the game, with some added gameplay improvements.
  • Okami. If you like Zelda games, you’ll enjoy this. The combat is more akin to a DMC/God of War hack-n-slash, but the dungeons feel like Zelda dungeons.
  • Resident Evil 4. The recent remake is also stellar.
  • Shadow of the Colossus. Don’t read anything about it beforehand. Go in blind.
  • Odin Sphere. A hand-drawn side scroller, with a great story.
  • Viewtiful Joe. Same devs as Okami, also cell shaded but with a very different art style. Stylish, fast paced side scroller.
  • Psychonauts. 3D platformer with a wild setting.
  • God of War trilogy. See where the series started, because the recent games are very different while still maintaining a lot of the same.

Primal is one that you don't see mentioned a lot. Got a lot of attention at the time.

Fantavision was a fireworks based game. Quite chill, and one of things like Lumines that you just zen into one day and sail through, and then the next you struggle again.

GTA Vice City was superior to San Andreas in my opinion.

Kuri Kuri Mix is a cutesy top down co-op game. It's no Split Fiction, but it's by FromSoft so expect some difficulty spikes.

This is honestly the list.

Play through a good deal of these and I'd wager you'll have a greater appreciation of video games as a whole.

[–] RickyRigatoni@retrolemmy.com 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You mention SMT but NOT Digital Devil Saga. A pox upon ye, villain.

[–] mic_check_one_two@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I never actually played DDS. I was really more of a Devil Survivor fan, personally… But those weren’t on the PS2.

[–] dzsimbo@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Did you miss out on Katamari Damacy or just forgot to list it?

[–] Venus_Ziegenfalle@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago

One that's rarely mentioned anywhere but that's a lot of fun even today is The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age. Especially if you like the franchise but it's also a solid game as is. It's a turn based rpg and you're kind of playing through the main story of lotr but you control a party of 6 characters that don't appear in the movies and kinda have their own battles to fight.

[–] CaptSatelliteJack@lemy.lol 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not a single Ace Combat mention, how disappointing. AC 5 and Zero awe absolute musts. I also recommend Mercury Meltdown Remix, and Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix. Honorable mentions include Burnout Revenge, Lego Star Wars, Treasure Planet (I might be biased shut up), and Atelier Iris 3: Grand Phantasm.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 1 points 9 hours ago

Burnout Takedown was the purest Burnout.

I've got no time for all that "traffic checking" nonsense.

Neopets: The Darkest Faerie is a surprisingly good action RPG made by a dev team that wanted to push the Neopets franchise into more of a "young adult" territory.

You’re officially the second person I’ve seen who has played the game. The first person is my wife, and it’s her favorite game.

Unless… Are you my wife…?

[–] hobbsc@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

they're not top of the charts but i enjoy gradius v, auto modellista, xiii, and dynasty warriors 4.

more popular games might be shadow of the colossus, tony hawk pro skater 3, metal gear solid 2, gta, etc. i'm not real into those except the first one but they got good ratings.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 2 points 9 hours ago

I'd honestly skip SotC and play the remake on PS4. The controls are so much better it makes the original feel like QWOP.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

I have no idea how they managed to fuck the XIII remaster so badly. The bar was underground and they still made it worse.

There's plenty of lists online that'll give you a good rundown of the popular ones, but my absolute favorite is a hidden gem called Steambot Chronicles. It's got so many different things to do packed into it, from fighting with giant customizable robots to playing a bunch of instruments with unique rhythm mechanics, to hustling pool. Plus the storyline splits based on dialogue choices you make, leading to a few different endings including a couple where you join the bad guys. It's just a really fun game that I've played more times than I can count.

SSX tricky, battlefront 1-2, sly cooper

[–] bigfoot@lemm.ee 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Any idea what the file format is? I hope it's CHDs.

So I downloaded 5 files and they are all .iso .

[–] Megaman_EXE@beehaw.org 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I had the space I would jump on this. Been meaning to play all the ps1/2 titles I've missed over the years

[–] UndergroundGoblin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You could search the meta for games your interested in and just download them.

[–] Megaman_EXE@beehaw.org 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lol that's a very good point. I don't know why that didn't occur to me, thank you!

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

FWIW: I highly recommend The Neverhood and a its encore, Skullmonkeys by Doug TenNapel. 🤘🏼🤓 (Both also available for PC, btw.)

[–] Megaman_EXE@beehaw.org 1 points 10 hours ago

I'll have to take a look! Thank you!
