Today's game is some more Zomboid. We played some more of our save where we're camped out in the Military Apartment. We even got another Friend on (Who we call Chef). He owned the game but never got to give it much of a try until now, so we decided to rectify that (plus he also helped us board up windows and burn corpses).

When he spawned in though we had to go pick him up from Muldraugh. I hotwired a car and drove it to get him. On our way there and back i nabbed a Duffle bag for him and we robbed a beer store for Beer (For medical supplies obviously, though Jerry may have had a few beers on the way home. No one tell the cops.)

When we got back, i had wanted to get my Aiming skill up for later, so i went out with a gun and just started taking shots at any Zombies i saw. The community center was largely open and filled with Zombies, so i went there to build up my skill. It went pretty well.

On the walk back though it was really fog (which is where the main picture was). I ended up sneaking through the alley's and back streets to be safe since i couldn't see an inch in front of my face. I luckily made it back without incident though.

While i was out i was also collecting supplies, which i ended the night unloading the supplies in a room. We're wanting too open the world up as a server for my friend group to play on (instead of having to have me host), so we're hoarding supplies until then so we're prepared since we're expecting some of our friends too be more than a little offensive with their playstyle. We're stocking up mainly on weapons and medical supplies to defend ourselves.

Do you usually stick to specific character roles, or just go with the flow each run?

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

We usually just go with the flow, though that mostly results in us just defaulting to the same thing anyways. I always turn out as the Combat/Carpentry guy

PZ! Heck yes! I haven't played this game in forever but always had a blast when playing it!

B42 multiplayer can't come quick enough...

Have you tried unstable in SP yet?

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I did! Day 1 in fact. It was a lot of fun. I can't wait for it to come to multiplayer so me and my friend can go to Louisville and make a base in one of the Skyscrapers they showed off

Doesn't B42 support local splitscreen? You could try that via Steam Remote Play or something, no?

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

it does support it! I've used it a few times before locally, Remote Play doesn't really work for me though due to my Internet

There's a world of difference between day 1 and the current build as well. Definitely take another look if you haven't recently. Devs finally waking up haha.

Favourite part so far has been the lighting system & ragdolls. If you whip a car fast enough in reverse and hit a sweet spot on the swing around, you can send Z flying like baseballs.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'll have to check it out because one of my favorite things to do is pelt zombies with a car and watch them flop over (said the completely sane man)

I liked the turn-based style of Cataclysm DDA over this real-time one. Because it was less realistic.
I had more time to think and less time to "oh shit, I'm dead."

But I like the tutorial here because it tells you clearly you're going to die a lot, in silly yet believable ways.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Every once and a while Cataclysm DDA will show up online and i'll think "I need to try it", but never do. I know zomboid references it so i really should pick it up sometime

[–] lath@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It was the reverse for me. Went through a few Cataclysm versions (e, f, g), each with their own style, and Zomboid was mentioned by other players from time to time. Someone gave me an earlier GOG version to try and it's interesting to go through both similarities and differences.

If you do end up playing Cataclysm eventually, maybe try the different graphical tilesets available. Each style can make the game feel better or worse, subjectively. Also, I mostly used the keyboard while playing. Honestly, don't even remember if you can play with a mouse anyway...

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is their controller support? I'm one of those weirdos who usually plays with controllers so it's definitely something i look into for each game

[–] lath@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well, it has joystick support... So there's that.

There doesn't seem to be anything native, but running it through steam can make use of its controller support for most keys.

Default though, the game is built for a keyboard experience.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I'll probably just suck it up and use the keyboard then lol. I want to get an authentic experience after all

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nooo! Don't let more people in, that's how your whole community fall apart in every single Zombie apocalypse!

Good luck with the sever and more players, that warning above is just "in-universe" warning, not stopping you from adding more friends 😀 At least your camp is turning into a proper base.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As long as some Sheriff from Georgia doesn't show up to my community i'll be safe lol

It will be nice to have more people on though. I love zomboid but the more people to make it feel like an apocalypse the better. I can't wait for them to add NPCs to the game just to help with that

[–] slimerancher@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Are NPCs on their roadmap? Should make game more accessible to people playing alone or with less people.

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I believe so! they were in the game at some point and they removed them for being buggy. I believe they'd said they're on the road map a few updates down too

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I love project zomboid. Totally recommend it. It's so customizable that it can be as challenging or easy as you'd like. I just wish it was easier to save games!

[–] MyNameIsAtticus@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

The customization is great. It really lets you basically design your own apocalypse to how you want
