USA is a threat to world peace.

[–] Vroomfondel@lemmy.ml 12 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

hmm ... sorry for being so critical. But where does this qualifiy as a meme? It is more like a "straw man" for politics discussion. That's what you want, right?

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 16 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

You're right the bottom image is wrong a country can't invade itself.

Also that is not what a straw man is.

[–] LeeeroooyJeeenkiiins@hexbear.net 40 points 1 day ago (1 children)

i object to this because the phrasing "invasion" still makes it out like the DPRK are the bad guys

it was a civil war, the lead up to the civil war seeing the South have a police dictatorship supported by the U.S. which did literally every awful thing the u.s. has accused the DPRK of doing, including killing people for the wrong fucking haircut

notice how literally no american ever talks about the U.S. civil war with "the North invaded the South"

and they're the good guys because they "ended slavery"*

*terms and conditions apply

[–] huf@hexbear.net 11 points 22 hours ago

Eeeh, plenty of American civil war revisionists go for that argument actually, it was even a major theme of the ken burns documentary

I remember seeing a "Yakko's World, but with every country the US has bombed since WWII" and was sad to see they forgot the first one in the song, "America".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_MOVE_bombing

(Any other times?)

[–] PM_ME_VINTAGE_30S@lemmy.sdf.org 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm surprised that there are countries we haven't bombed πŸ™ƒ

Hoping UK is next.

[–] gezero@lemmy.bowyerhub.uk 12 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why is Ukraine not red on the bottom map?

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 day ago

North Koreans didn’t fight in Ukraine. They fought in Russia.

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.org 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Russia should be red for "supporting dictators", too.

Oh I just noticed that we only count invasions for DPRK instead of all the other things.

[–] tacosanonymous@mander.xyz -2 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (3 children)

Love that they change the metric between the two. Also, I am not a fan of DPRK. but I’ve never once described them in that way.

And just in case no one in the back can hear, JUST BC USA IS AWFUL DOESN’T MEAN OTHER REGIMES ARE GOOD.

[–] jackeroni@lemmy.ml 5 points 9 hours ago

Friend, the ones telling you the other "regimes are awful" IS the US empire

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 11 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Who did the dprk coup or bomb?

[–] lime@feddit.nu -5 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

japan? at least they've attempted it a couple of times

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 3 points 8 hours ago

High-trajectory missile tests are not missile attacks or attempts thereof.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 8 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

And of course you have no source...

[–] lime@feddit.nu -3 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

i wasn't really interested in continuing the conversation.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

and yet you replied anyway...

[–] lime@feddit.nu -1 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

yeah i thought it was common knowledge. there a have been hundreds of missile launch events at or through other countries' territory. wikipedia has not one but several, extensively sourced lists with maps. didn't really expect pushbacks on such a well-documented thing. i'll be going now.

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 6 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

So you think that those missiles were actually intended to hit targets but failed. That's interesting, what exactly do you base that belief on?

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 2 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Yeah a lot of state department propaganda is common "knowledge". Just because a bunch of westerners believe something does not mean it has any merit.

Wikipedia itself should never be trusted just because it has "sources" literally anyone can contribute to wikipedia and it has been well known for decades it has a massive bias against the west's designated adversaries. Would you care to share some of the sources cited by wikipedia?

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 14 points 19 hours ago

lol

lmao, even

[–] happyfullfridge@lemmy.ml -3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

mostly seen dpkr be called a threat to it's own citizen, which is very true

[–] FortifiedAttack@hexbear.net 33 points 1 day ago (1 children)

According to people who do not live in the DPRK

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com -5 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Considering they supposedly punish multiple generations for defectors...I wouldnt call the emigration without consequences...

https://youtu.be/drDurH8koks

Very interesting story by a NK defector.

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 8 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

"supposedly" doing a lot of heavy lifting there.

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

[–] Nakoichi@hexbear.net 6 points 16 hours ago
