I hope Nintendo dies a slow painful death...wishful thinking, but maybe with their shit policies it will eventually catch up to them. Not today I guess...

Unsurprisingly. I remember some friends swearing that it would be DOA because of console/games prices and whatever.

I was like, if gamers were careful with their money, we wouldn’t have had horse armor nonsense for the past 20 years, lol.

I think those doomsayers will be partially vindicated in the coming months. You can go to Best Buy's website and order a Switch 2 with no waiting line, no delay. The supply is outpacing demand. Because I think a huge part of the 6 million sold was pent up demand for a new console and the inevitable cumulative brand effect and population increase leading to a larger early-adopter pool.

Unless Nintendo somehow had the ability to increase supply in a way unheard of for launch consoles in the past, I think that they met that early demand, and now it's going to slow down abruptly. Now they have to convince regular people in a bad economy to spend way more than normal for a Nintendo console, with no Mario or Zelda killer app.

Eventually it'll be a great selling machine, but these early numbers are misleading.

There is definitely a lot of truth in this.

If gamers were more critical about with their purchases, we would have a very different gaming industry.

I'd take some of the claims with a pinch of salt. Selling faster now reflects better availability of the Switch 2 compared to the switch 1 at this point in its cycle. The switch 1 was also sold out this close to launch but Nintendo wasn't able to manufacture as many to keep up.

All this shows for now is that the Nintendo is meeting the initial demand better than it could with the first switch. It does not tell us it's more popular or how well it'll do overall. In other words all this stuff about it "out pacing" the swith 1 reflects better manufacturing availability rather than how popular the console itself is going to be long term.

While the switch 2 has undoubtedly had a strong launch, it remains to be seen if the mass market are going to clamour to buy them for Christmas when they're relatively expensive, with a limited selection of exclusive games. Adult gamers/early adopters being enthusiastic about getting the switch 2 is a good sign but doesn't necessarily translate to parents buying the console for their families.

The family and casual gamer market is the bigger one for Switch, and I honestly don't yet see a compelling reason they'd rush out to buy one? 1080p.gaming, better performance and game chat certainly isn't it. It needs some really compelling 1st party or excluaive games. Mario Kart World and Dokey Kong Bonanza plus a raft of old games really isn't great.

I'm not seeing a big new must have exclusive game to help drive sales for Christmas. No big new Zelda, Mario or Pokemon game? Maybe Nintendo intend christmas 2026 to be the mass market year for the switch 2, and this year be to keep on top of initial demand but it seems a bit of a risky strategy to me.

Nintendo was never really a thing where I live (other than late NES clones and occasional Gameboys back in the day).

With Nintendo's uncompetitive pricing policy and focus on rehashing the same properties, it's doubtful Nintendo will ever be a thing in our region,

They'll just continue their focus on large western/Asian markets, it's not like they need every country to be successful. They've been conditioned to just buy whatever AAA is put out

This Nintendo with its price point, ridiculously priced games, and Nintendo's overall shitty policies, shouldn't be a thing anywhere. Like Apple fans though, the more anti consumer a product is, the more people will buy it and collectively make things worse for the rest of us.

If the focus was on more competitive markets (in the real sense, not PR) and we had less corruption, Nintendo copyrights would already begin to expire.

This way Nintendo could make it's own game and it's own console and others could try out their own concepts.

Impressive. It's a great console.
