"The tribe", "the group" -- aka three people.

Also, for the record, I'd like to point out that the Daily Record is a Scottish tabloid.

Sorry, was trying to avoid the daily fail and this seemed to have the funniest title. It does seem like a weird mini sex cult.

Britain with no irony: "You can't come to a land and act like its yours! We were living here first!"

[–] toynbee@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

Well ... Do they have a flag?

[–] rbesfe@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 months ago

People living in public woods is okay because colonialism, thanks Lemmy

[–] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I read the whole article and I still don't know if it is real. I hate this timeline.

[–] LaunchesKayaks@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Same. The fact the site had an obscene amount of ads on mobile made it worse weird

[–] Feyd@programming.dev 1 points 2 months ago

Tf is an ad?

[–] MirthfulAlembic@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They seem like a UK offshoot of the Black Hebrew Israelites.

If they want to live in tents in the forest instead of yelling at people walking by on the street, I suppose that's an improvement.

Living on nuts and berries is probably safer than eating Scottish food.

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That was certainly... a read. I don't know enough about Jacobites, anyone have any context on that?

[–] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 28 points 2 months ago (3 children)

To simplify, it was a political group of Catholic conservatives, which fought the Protestant kings and queens. They were not especially black.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 17 points 2 months ago (2 children)

They were not especially black.

lol

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

There’s a group of people who are (rightly) concerned that black folks have been omitted from history, and have overcorrected to claiming that basically all important historical figures ever were black. Another comment in this thread mentioned the Black Israelites, but there’s also the Nation of Islam (nothing Yakub made could be good of course).

Betting the lost black tribe nonsense is a corruption of some African Christian myth. The Christians were already there by the 1st century, and in no small numbers, building churches, all that. There's a lot of history there I'm ignorant of.

[–] zloubida@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

It's not a thing I thought I'd write someday 😅

[–] Harvey656@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

This story gets weirder and weirder.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I'm skeptical. If these people truly are of a tribe attempting to reclaim stolen land, I support them. But the cynic in me wonders if they're cosplaying and looking for a con.

[–] rbesfe@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're African. There were never any Africans living in Scotland before the slave trade.

[–] tgirlschierke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Well, to be pedantic, we're all African immigrants, just many generations removed. But, yeah.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

If it lets them get back to nature and pursue enlightenment, does the story they use to get there really matter?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yes, if they're lying to perpetuate fraud.

[–] SlartyBartFast@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Isn't that every religion?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 4 points 2 months ago

Yes and no. There are true believers and there are charlatans who knowingly swindle people. That much is easily apparent.

[–] ZoteTheMighty@lemmy.zip 9 points 2 months ago

Looking forward to an update after the first snow.

[–] Flax_vert@feddit.uk 7 points 2 months ago

Kinda feel like we should leave them just to see what happens

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 2 months ago

I wonder if they'd like it more or less if people just agreed to let them do it

[–] Diddlydee@feddit.uk 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Cool and all, but you were not natives of Scotland.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 months ago

Neither are the Scots if you go back far enough.

All humans are immigrants except MAYBE some Ethiopians still living in the cradle of life.

Idk i feel like 1,000 years should be long enough to naturalize. If they can hold those woods for 1,000 years, they should be considered natives.
