The I-Team also found six sergeants in the sheriff's office who live out of state - in Idaho, Nevada, Texas and Tennessee. Two of them work on the bomb squad where they made almost $600,000 in pay and benefits last year. They're supposed to respond to a bomb threat within one hour -- no way that's happening if they're in Tennessee.

Jesus christ.

Ok. Hypothetically speaking if my family lives in a town, and I recieve a job offer in another state that pays $600,000 a year my household income triples, my wife no longer has to work and I rent a spare room near work I TECHNICALLY live in another state.

If they are fulfilling their contracts who gives a fuck. I know a guy who "lives" with his parents on paper but is a full time vanlife I.T consultant. He hasnt "lived" anywhere specific in about 3 years.

These people are salaried with the intent they are available to respond to an emergency. The person you replied to said able to respond within an hour, for instance.

They addressed that though, the idea is that maybe they aren't literally actually commuting from another state and that's just their legal residence. The article showed evidence they were illegally living in the police station, so if that's the case it would explain why they aren't using that explanation as a defense.

It's kind of confusing why this would be a thing to begin with though, is the Bay Area really so expensive that 600k a year isn't enough to afford rent there?

Yeah imagine going to the hospital with a stroke and your on-call surgeon lives 1500 miles away, except in this case you've already paid them upfront and they're earning 6x the amount of other surgeons because they're "on-call." Fuck these corrupt pigs.

Only because the original headline wasn't "onion-y" enough.
