The carbon monoxide is getting to them. This is why you don't leave the oven on with the door open.

Why does the oven produce carbon monoxide? Who in their right fucking mind would want an oven that does that?

You can get gas ovens...

Not gas as in what the yanks call petroleum, gas as in butane, propane etc

All that exhaust still has to go somewhere even with the door closed. I’m surprised at all the houses I see where a cheap reno means the hood fan exhausts directly into the cupboard above.
