Pretty hard agree on all these but I honestly feel the 2md Suicide Squad movie is 100 percent worth a watch. It's hilarious and Cena's Peacemaker is great. His spin off show is great as well.

[–] loutr@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, I don't care about DC movies but I loved Peacemaker, so I gave it a chance and it was great.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I found them both a tad too serious for how dumb they are. Neither can quite decide whether they're dumb, goofy fun or serious action movies.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago

Idk man I felt like that was literally the whole point. That the dude takes himself way too serious but he's dumb and stupid shit keeps happening to him. Sometimes you gotta just enjoy things. I felt the plot was pretty solid and a good balance of dumb goofy and gore. I'm a fan of Deadpool though so maybe that just resonates with me more. It's not for everyone, I get it.

[–] figjam@midwest.social 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I enjoyed The Suicide Squad more when I blocked it off from the rest of the DC universe.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Oh definitely agree.

[–] kayzeekayzee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 18 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I only saw five of these, but here are my reviews:

  • Man of Steel - dumb and gray
  • Batman v Superman - awful
  • Wonder Woman - okay, until the very end, where the writers decided to throw away every theme they've been building and just have superheroes hit each other
  • Aquaman (genuinely don't remember which one) - awful
  • Birds of Prey - dumb, but kinda fun ngl
[–] bizarroland@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago

Batman v Superman was insane. They tried to stuff like seven movies into one, and because there was no thematic consistency throughout the entire thing, it was just a hot garbled mess.

Why would you shoehorn the death of Superman into the ending of a Batman v Superman movie?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

I havent even heard of a handful of them. I just found out The Suicide Squad exists.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago

I loved Wonder Woman, but by having Ares actually be responsible for the War, completely fucked up the moral that Wonder Woman was learning in the film.

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I liked Shazam, but not as a superhero film.

[–] themeatbridge@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago

The first Shazam was the best movie of that continuity. The second one should have featured Black Adam, instead of giving him his own movie.

[–] BartyDeCanter@lemmy.sdf.org 6 points 3 weeks ago

Shazam was pretty enjoyable. It reminds me of good movies back when movies were allowed to be merely good instead of either amazing or terrible.

Text not green. Me downvote.

Zionist war criminal

Is she? I'm no fan of her and not trying to defend her in any way but that's quite the claim to out on someone's feet; there better be some evidence. Het having been in the IDF is not evidence of war crimes, that is probably even unavoidable when growing up there.

so anyone got a link about what exactly she did?

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

It's simply that she, like every other israeli, did national service (with the IDF). Presumably at some point a good deal of years before she was in WW. Because it's typically for 18 year olds.

Now, absolutely nobody was mad about this at the time she appeared in wonder woman, but they are now that the war has flared up.

This is why there's been a little campaign of vitriol about her acting abilities, too.

I just think that if people actualy cared about (either of) these things they would've complained about them some time before Palestine entered wider public conscience. It's common knowledge that israelis have to dk military service with the IDF, after all.

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 22 points 3 weeks ago

Joke's on you. I've been complaining about her acting since I found out everyone who played an amazon had to fake an Israeli accent because Gal Gadot, a professional actress who gets literally hundreds of thousands of dollars per movie, couldn't hide her own.

Every time I see Heard, all I can think is, "She shits on beds! Who does that?!"

Bunch of movies that are trying too hard, yet can't commit to anything.

[–] TheImpressiveX@lemmy.today 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

DC (home of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.) tried to make their own shared universe of superhero movies like Marvel did, but failed horrifically and now they rebooted with James Gunn.

Detective Comics Extended Universe

RIP to Miss Snyder, I had no idea that happened.

Wonder Woman Vol. 1

I've seen just less than half of these, Wonder Woman being one of the first I watched. PAINFULLY BLAND. I don't understand this movie at all. It seemed like the characters were blank stones and not very much happened except "we need to go to x location and fight some people."

Please correct me if I'm wrong because i was a teenager and texting on my phone for the whole thing, but that is how I remember it.

Birds of Prey, 'triggered a culture war,"

Never heard of this in my life. And i was spending 24h a day online during covid, lol. I'm guessing anon just didn't want to break the post's pattern. I know the feeling.

Personally I heard that Birds of Prey and THE Suicide Squad were amazing.

Aquaman

Jason Momoa's Aquaman isn't really Aquaman. The film was very generic.

Blue Beetle, "Nobody saw this"

Again, looks like anon desperately wanted to stick to the bit - but this time had no ammunition to throw at the film.

Flash

I actually can't get into what a disaster this actor and the film itself have been for the DCU. It makes the whole series of films seem like the work of a shadowy organisation of supervillains.

Shazam

Fairly good film, my boomer parents loved it, looking back i have some misgivings on the villain charscter but i can't remember why.

Shazam - Fury of the Gods

It had bad villains apparently, i didn't actually watch it myself.

I know it's just a dumb greentext but crediting the fikm with Zachary Levi going schizo seems disingenuous... that's probably because he is actually the closest thing to an "evil zionist" among these stars. Not everything needs an origin story!

Black Adam

I highly recommend anyone interested in DC movies to watch "who killed the DCU?" On youtube instead of this movie.

  • anything i didn't comment on you akready know why and have heard all the talk about it before
[–] Stamau123@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

You say that but I am confident nobody in this thread has seen Blue Beetle, myself included

[–] jacksilver@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Haha, sorry to ruin your day, but I did see it!

Having watched young justice (and some other DC shows) I was familiar with the hero so checked it out. It was a decently fun movie for a somewhat lesser known hero. I think the weakest part was that, like most superhero movies, the big bad was a carbon copy of blue beetle (can't recall if it was his arch nemesis Black Beetle or some other iteration).

I'd say of the DCEU movies I've watched, it was one of the better ones.

[–] Eq0@literature.cafe 2 points 3 weeks ago

I also watched it! I… don’t really remember anything about it other than it being okay.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

Never even heard of it. I almost thought it was made up.

[–] Static_Rocket@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Birds of Prey definitely started some shit online, but it was primarily the already vocal assholes of reddit and x flinging shit at each other. I heard a lot from both sides and ended up avoiding the movie completely.

[–] stevedice@sh.itjust.works 10 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

You're forgetting OP of the greentext is a 4chan regular so their social circle is probably entirely comprised of vocal assholes of reddit and x flinging shit at each other.

[–] Senal@programming.dev 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Unironically used the term "chimped out"

Either a born and bred 4chan native or a very dedicated method actor.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Why is chimped out a bad term? I see it used a lot tbh

[–] Senal@programming.dev 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

I could be wrong but I've only ever heard it used to refer to black people (not all poc's) acting violent or loudly.

Wikipedia agrees with me.

Like how they imagine a chimpanzee would act, I assume.

Im not expecting great depth of thought from people using this phrase knowing it's origin.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

That's grim, it's good you're bringing awzreness to it though so thanks

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I remember Birds of Prey fans lying and saying the Sonic movie was homophobic

Twitter people lied and said the Sonic movie was homophobic in order to drum up support for the Birds of Prey movie.

Interesting

[–] msage@programming.dev 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I will always remember the Mauler's review of the Snyder cut. And how people keep praising the Snyder cut, even though it was actually worse.

That made me thinking that people forget what they were watching when movies get too long. And that perhaps that's why even shows get such long episodes - Stranger things last episode of season 4: TWO hours twenty minutes??

It's just useless shit for the sake of being there, while adding nothing important. And I hate that people respond positively to watering down the media even more.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The Snyder cut feels less disjointed than the theatrical cut, which is all I wanted. Some movies keep their cohesion through reshoots, like fantastic four, but others do not, like red hulk and this.

I’m never rewatching it, but I didn’t come out feeling like I just wandered through a dream sequence

[–] msage@programming.dev 1 points 3 weeks ago

4hrs in cinema would feel like a dream sequence no matter what

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Man of Steel is legit the worst Superman Movie, would rather watch Superman IV again

[–] kayzeekayzee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago

Superman IV is a masterpiece!!

"Think of the people!"
