This image is a pretty good example of AI art being pretty bad at doing what it should.

Because this isn’t the style of H.R. Giger. Like… not at all. It’s black and white? It has… details? This is just 5 or so different “robot detective” pieces blended together and it turns into sludge.

Yep. It was not at all what I wanted or expected. And yet, I can't deny that it looks good.

Of course as I said elsewhere, this is DALL-E 3 via Bing, which has a very mixed track record to begin with. I wasn't that surprised I didn't get what I wanted.

I suspect it's because a lot of the cyberpunk out there is explicitly neo-noir. So you end up with a noir detective mixed with a robot, like Nick Valentine in Fallout, even if the tubes and cables are slightly Gigerish. Not much Inspector Gadget, because that's primarily a cartoon.

Go try out Stable Diffusion. Much more freedom and control over your inputs and outputs.

Nonetheless its a dope image

Nick Valentine

Not enough hidden penises.

[–] yukichigai@kbin.social 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

It's DALL-E 3 on Bing so they filter out all the penises unfortunately.

I get the impression there's a lot of filtering, too. I tried to do "J.C. Denton in the style of David Lynch" and every result was filtered. "J.C. Denton from Deus Ex in the style of David Lynch" on the other hand went through fine, despite "deu sex" being a common joke title for the series. Go figure.

Oh also if you're curious I'll attach what I got for that prompt.

He looks like the guy from Fallout 4, Vincent Valentine

[–] norbert@kbin.social 2 points 9 months ago

Nick Valentine but he really does.

Not enough vajajay

[–] thelsim@sh.itjust.works 4 points 9 months ago

I couldn't help but give it a try myself :)

Prompt: character design of inspector gadget, wearing a fedora, riddled with biomechanical implants, looking in horror at the viewer, as painted by H. R. Giger
Yes, I know it was a trilby and not a fedora. I only found out after I made this image.

It's no Giger, but then again I really can't see how you could blend the two styles without losing what made Giger's work so unique.
