Fucking never. Never ever. I'd sooner cut myself off from all technology and live in the woods than willingly give those creepy fucks my middle goddamn name. There is absolutely nothing good that will come from this company. The people at that company literally fucking movie villains. It's fucking crazy that absolutely anyone works with them, let alone world governments.

These large scale surveillance companies like Palantir, like Flock, they shouldn't exist. They should be outlawed. Our government needs probable cause and a warrant to surveil a suspect. If a normal civilian followed you around and filmed you, kept track of you at all times, they'd be arrested for stalking. But for some reason private companies can just watch every man, woman, and child in public and online, catalog all our movements, where we went, how we went there, who was with us, track what we do, what we read, who we know, how we spend our time, what we say, etc., and then permanently log all of that, use it to form dociers on us, predict our behaviors, or desires, ways to manipulate us, and then turn around and sell that data to governments, other companies and private parties. How the fuck is that legal.

Why in the fuck would you ever allow a private, profit-driven company to have that kind of power over your nation, let alone reward it with federal dollars, long term contracts and access to our law enforcement and military data and systems?

Worse, the founders and CEO are unhinged wannabe dictators trying to form their own sovereign techno-states. They're not even secretive about that. And our goverment is fucking funding these nuts and giving them every detail of the lives of our citizenry, our goverment officials, our military... how fucking stupid do we have to be, guys? I wish I could say it's just Trump but it's not. It's mind boggling.

It's a great way to kill those products. That's maybe the only upside.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 10 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Is it?

Most people won't care and continue using it anyways.

I won't, for sure, but most people are fucking idiots when it comes to this stuff

[–] lastlybutfirstly@lemmy.world 2 points 53 minutes ago

The problem is there are a lot of subreddits that are an excellent resource. As far as I know, there aren't any Blender help instances with a 100,000 people. I really wish there were.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 hours ago

Maybe that's his goal.

Fucking Peter literally creating the very monster he claims to hate.

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

Like hell me, my 1 friend and my half working Matrix server are.

[–] Numinous_Ylem@lemmy.world 127 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Abandon all of these platforms and any others that associate in any way with Palantir or Thiel

[–] root@lemmy.world 27 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Almost wish I could be part of the exodus, but I use none of these

The problem is that millions do, and won't understand what the big deal is, and be sucked into the fucking psyop vortex.

[–] Lfrith@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Few powerful people deciding everything and millions falling in line and the few outliers being affected even if they opt out due to decisions of millions of others who support the few powerful sums up the world.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 3 points 2 hours ago

That's the thing. You don't have to fool all the people all of the time, just most of the people most of the time.

If people cared about "the children" they wouldn't let them on the Internet until they were 21.

If people cared about humanity they wouldn't allow "the algorithms" to exist or let social media or news media exist they way it does now.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 36 points 6 hours ago (4 children)

I don’t think that’s the solution though, kids (including teens to some extent) can be on the internet but it requires better parenting. It’s better to monitor what they are doing online until they are like 15 or 16, maybe 17 if you have a really good reason too. Limit screen time, be around to answer questions your kid has about what they might see.

Little kids though? Absolutely should be off the internet. Anyone under 10 shouldn’t be on the internet period in my opinion. 10-12 is kinda a gray zone to me where it’s definitely up to the parents and if they think their child is ready.

[–] tburkhol@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

My nephew has a new baby. Her parents are constantly waving their phones in her face; sending pics back and forth; generally doing 'millenial things' with their phones when not actively attending the baby. Then proceed to get all freaked out when the baby expresses interest or curiosity in the phone.

Kids mimic their parents behavior and interests. If you want kids with healthy internet use, you have to have parents model healthy internet use.

[–] oxysis@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

Also since they weren’t allowed on the internet till they were 21, those 21 year olds won’t know how to act on the internet. So now there’s 21 year olds roaming around who will need to figure all that shit out. They might get other aspects of being an adult but the internet will be completely alien.

It’s like when I saw people saying kids shouldn’t be allowed into the grocery store because someone was annoyed that kids didn’t know how to behave there yet. You just create a new and larger problem where adults don’t know how to act.

Yeah, we should also ban anyone under 25 from voting too! Brain isn't fully developed! Reeeee!

[–] Mangoholic@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 hour ago

And anyone over 50, brain is barely functional after 30 years of propaganda.

[–] U7826391786239@lemmy.zip 11 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

go through and edit your comments to be gibberish before you delete your acccount

[–] db2@lemmy.world 11 points 6 hours ago (3 children)

They'll undo it. Go look at mine that shouldn't exist.

[–] tomiant@piefed.social 7 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago) (2 children)

You could piss off the admins big time and they'll ban and suspend all your accounts using advanced methods to connect them across different emails or even if you signed up anonymously, and not a single thing you ever wrote on there will ever be visible to the world again. Ask me how I know.

[–] turboSnail@piefed.europe.pub 1 points 43 minutes ago

Alternatively, sell your account to spammers, and they'll get your account banned in no time. Your comments get deleted, you'll get paid for it, and Reddit becomes worse for everyone. I see no downsides in this arrangement.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Can you make them think I'm you? I'd be very appreciative.

[–] circuscritic@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

There's violentmonkey scripts that overwrite and delete them, and they stay gone. I've been using one for years.

They might still be in some AI training data sets, but they're not on my profile.

The only PITA thing is that you get rate limited, so doing your initial batch of deletions could a while, then just run it semi-regularly.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I used a script too, scrubbed years of stuff. It's all back.

[–] circuscritic@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

You might have just let it run past the rate limit.

After it limits you, the script looks like it's still running, but if you hit refresh, you'll see your timed out, and nothing past when you're actually limited, got deleted. It'll be several minutes before you can start running it again.

I've done this for many hundreds of comments.

Every once in awhile, I've had a few batches of comments reappear that I can't associate with a rate limiting error, but I have yet to find comments that come back a third time.

I guess YMMV, but that's what my experience has been.

[–] db2@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

No, it was gone. The only thing that was left were relatively recent critiques I was commenting before I left. They took the time to fish my stuff out of old backups. Last I looked the critiques were there too so it wasn't just a blanket restoration either.

I'd be flattered if it weren't so fucking creepy.

I guess I'm compelled not to use Roblox, Reddit or Discord, then.

[–] KelvarCherry@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 5 hours ago

for Roblox, at least, you're not missing out. If I wanted to get fleeced by a bunch of pedophiles and bigots, I'd check out the next RNC gathering.

[–] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 18 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

My kid wants to be verified on Roblox sooooooo bad so he can defend himself against trolls. It’s actually been a good lesson in ignoring those idiots like water off a ducks back.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 15 points 6 hours ago (5 children)

Why would you let him interact with randoms?

Like. "Trolls" are the least of your worries here.

[–] TheAsianDonKnots@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

You ever been on Roblox? I’m not going to shelter him from what’s out there. Together we’re going to learn how to outsmart and out play every kind of troll. My daughters are much stronger now after playing toxic COD Zombies lobbies a decade ago. I’m an old man with three wonderful kids who will never bully or belittle another animal, even the nasty animals online.

Edit: do you think my child is unsupervised and I would allow a pedo to chat my kids up? “Roaming around time square”? Y’all need to stop pearl clutching. If you leave your kids unsupervised, that’s on you. My children are very aware of what is and isn’t appropriate.
