Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Likely the only time I'm rooting for Nintendo in a lawsuit.

The enemy of my enemy is still my enemy, but it's funny to see them fight.

Nintendo -
Use our IP to advertise fascism: I sleep
Fuck with our profits: I WAKE

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 21 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Someone used Nintendo IP to advertise fascism?

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 57 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

DHS used Pokemon to advertise ICE. Gotta catch 'em all.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 15 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Jesus Christ. Thank you for the context, I completely missed rhat

Posted by the Whitehouse twitter account, this is also a recent one, the DHS post was also real from a while back (no link but I've seen proof)

If you told me several year ago that I'd be cheering for Nintendo in a lawsuit....

More than 1000 companies also have sued the US government

I think it‘s past 2000 at this point and growing. This is huge.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 hours ago

It's big, but it's not really impressive. It's just for restitution, because the tariffs were already ruled illegal. This is just suing to see how much will be returned. It's interesting, but it doesn't effect much. It'd be nice if the money went to the consumers that paid the increase in prices, but we know that isn't going to happen.

Companies suing the government for taxes that they just pass on to consumers is both the bread and the circuses of the modern age.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

I think that Nintendo did not pass on the tariff to consumers in this situation meaning that they have literal monetary damages. At least, that’s the rumor.

[–] Infrapink@thebrainbin.org 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Switch 2s are cheaper in America than the Eurozone and the EU aren't putting any new tariffs on Japan or Viernam, so they haven't increased prices to account for tariffs. They pulled this off by getting a whole lot of Switch 2s into America before tariffs came into force.

[–] rafoix@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 hours ago

I think Nintendo knows how important the US is to their bottom line so they’re willing to eat some shit before making a buck.

[–] unknown1234_5@kbin.earth 9 points 10 hours ago

bread and circuses were free. unfortunately this is even worse.

[–] OldQWERTYbastard@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Heh.... It will be a very very long time before any of these companies see a thin dime of that tariff money back...if ever.

[–] athatet@lemmy.zip 32 points 11 hours ago

No no. They will give the money back to the corps. The people who spent that money won’t see it.

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 8 points 11 hours ago

The point might be injunctions and judicial record, they might know they're not getting their money back.
