Any news when it will fully release? This is just early access release, so they are still working on the game as I understand

[–] Keegen@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Steam has the Early Access section on the product page for a reason:

[–] GlendatheGayWitch@lemmy.world 1 points 10 hours ago

I wasn't going to play it on steam, so I didn't think to look there. Thank you for sharing the screenshot

574K concurrent for a deckbuilder sequel is wild. Slay the Spire created the genre and now its sequel dominates it. Other roguelike card games must be taking notes.

[–] dukeofdummies@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago

Makes total sense why they made it co-op though

[–] BenVimes@lemmy.ca 5 points 18 hours ago

Slay the Spire is one of my top 5 favourite games ever, and I've probably put more than 1500 hours into it. I'm super excited about the sequel.

The only downside is that it's only on Steam right now. 90%+ of my playtime in the first game is on my phone. I mind paying twice, but I will miss the convenience while I wait for the mobile release.

Played a couple of rounds so far, one in the nicely implemented multiplayer mode. If you liked the original you'll like this too. I'm also really happy for such a successful release of a Godot game.

[–] zhyl@feddit.uk 7 points 14 hours ago

This will be great if it helps fund Godot. Hard to argue it's not a proper game engine now!

[–] afromustache@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (4 children)

Should I play the first first or is starting with this one ok?

I used to be very anti-card game but Inscryption was very fun and I'm trying to branch out to some stuff outside of my comfort zone. Any other recommendations for card games?

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 19 hours ago

Not related to STS2 or this topic, but if you really enjoyed Inscryption, I stroooongly urge you to play Daniel Mullins’ other big game, “The Hex.” I went in blind on the advice of someone when I was back on Reddit. They told me

“Don’t watch the trailer, don’t read anything, the weird graphics in the screenshots will make sense like a half hour in. It’s so cheap but it’s an incredible game.”

I picked it up, started it with my partner, and we marathoned it in a couple days. We could have gone faster but we took our sweet time, there were MULTPLE mind-blowing moments for us, and it has ties to the Inscryption world, too. Like nobody has played it compared to Inscryption and I find that insane. I started with Inscryption and loved it, it’s got more replay value than The Hex, but overall I think I’d rate The Hex a tad higher in overall game quality. It’s so… I can’t say anything more without spoiling stuff. Go in blind, it’s worth it!

If you or anyone else reading this heeds my advice, PLEASE let me know what you think of the game once you’re… like, into the game a bit and “get it.”

The Hex and “The Forgotten City” (a game NOT by Daniel Mullins) are two games I went into completely blind, wouldn’t have it any other way, and wish above all other games I could experience again with no memory of the games.

Please go play the Hex, everyone who liked Inscryption! (Also Danial has another game coming out this year or next and I am UNREASONABLY hyped and I don’t ever get hyped for any games ever anymore)

As a mechanical game sts(1+2) is superior to inscryption, however do not expect any kind of narrative driven gameplay, gameplay element changes, or real interaction with the opposite side other than fighting.

I really really enjoyed inscryption, but I only played it through once. I currently have around 20 hours in sts2 and I have no idea how much in 1.

All of that being said, I do think that you can get the feel of a puzzler from slay the spire, at least in its most intense moments. Trying to find the right solution to survive. If you enjoyed the card based elements of inscryption, you will enjoy slay the spire.

Also, just skip to 2 instead of playing one. If you have any friends that like the series, try the coop too! It's really fun and well done.

Edit: I seen you asked for other recommendations, and I would suggest monster train 2. Again, no real story so it doesn't matter that you're picking it up at 2.

Unfortunately inscryption is pretty unique in the genre, which is what made it so great.

[–] afromustache@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I will definitely give those a try. I know that Slay the Spire has been lionized as one of the best card games I just have always hesitated to try it for some reason. But now that 2 is out I'll definitely be picking it up. Monster Train I am not super familiar with but I will check it out.

[–] WhoIsTheDrizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

Monster Train was fantastic and Monster Train 2 is even better. I love the challenge modes and the new hellspawn.

[–] LucidNightmare@anarchist.nexus 6 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

God, Inscryption was so good!

[–] afromustache@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah the vibes with Inscryption were just...like it was a card game but I felt legitimately unnerved. The music and the sound effects made me viscerally uncomfortable, and then the way Leshy watched you when you walked around the cabin was creepy as shit.

It kind of opened my eyes to card games in general and (not that I didn't already know this from games like Disco Elysium, Subnautica, Soma, Outer Wilds, etc.) The fact that smaller budget titles often time were significantly more worthwhile than AAA stuff.

[–] LucidNightmare@anarchist.nexus 3 points 12 hours ago

Exactly. I was never into card games until I played Inscryption. It just clicked so well. I made it through the story and now about every month or so I will boot up Kaycee’s Mod to do a few playthroughs!

I would’ve never played Balatro if it wasn’t for Inscryption. :)

[–] dtrain@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Sts2 ,in every conceivable way, supersedes its predecessor , rendering it obsolete.

There’s minimal story, so you’re not missing anything.

Just jump in and play.

[–] WillFord27@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Not disagreeing, but it's hard to imagine a masterpiece of a game being rendered obsolete. There's beauty in its deceptive simplicity, the game really was exactly what it set out to be. For example, there's a large chunk of the Minecraft playerbase that would argue prerelease is the superior version of the game. There's clarity and refinement in less.

[–] afromustache@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

It's kind of like (and this is obviously a departure from the card game genre) Heroes of Might and Magic 3 is considered the ultimate game of the franchise despite their being several proceding iterations after it. I'm even a huge fan of the 2nd one despite it being significantly more minimal. Something about the 2d sprites and was very charming.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

That said, Slay the Spire regularly goes on sale for like 90% off. You can pick the game up for under $3.

[–] darthelmet@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I couldn't even buy it for like an hour because Steam was getting overloaded lol. I'm playing it now and having a lot of fun.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 10 points 21 hours ago

as far as I remember, this has only happened twice in recent years, last time being silksong.

love seeing small and/or independent devs show up the aaa's.

[–] Fishy@lemmy.world 42 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It’s really good, relatively cheap, expands on the original game. Understandable.

[–] Schal330@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

Enjoying it very much. For a game that isn't even complete it is so solid on the gameplay. Feels different enough from the first game, but also the same.

Not sure if it will become my favourite deck builder over Monster Train 2, but it's still a fantastic early access game.

[–] glibg@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

I suck so bad at the first one, probably won't spend any money to lose at this one until it's on sale in a few years.

[–] Monstrosity@lemmy.today 8 points 1 day ago

I am waiting for the full release but goddamn I hope it doesn't take too long!

Mewgenics is keeping me happy atm, but StS is the literal GOAT
