In addition to providing habitat for endemic plant and animal species along the U.S. Mexico border, the islands carry historical and cultural significance. For the Carrizo Comecrudo Tribe of Texas, they are sites where sacred ceremonies and rituals have taken place.

I thought the title was poorly worded but no, they are "removing" a fucking island.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 months ago

Removing the urge to rape children there.

[–] Carighan@piefed.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Americans would do anything before they take a look in the mirror, damn.

[–] papalonian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

I wasn't sure if it was maybe meant to be:

Texas begins removing "rio grande"; island officials say [it] is used to hide and smuggle immigrants

Or something similar. Me not being familiar with the area and the whole title being capitalized made it hard for me to pick apart the proper nouns

Ingenious approach to solving problems! From now on, whenever there's a bug in my code, I'll just delete it. Can't have bugs if you haven't got any code. Taps head.

"If you have a bug in your computer code, then you need to take the computer apart and clean it." -These fucking boomers

[–] Little8Lost@lemmy.world 14 points 2 months ago

I mean thats literally where the term comes from. They even had a "debugger" that used a brush to get the bugs out of the relais

The doesn't solve the underlying issue. They should remove Texas from the border and place it somewhere in the middle of the ocean.

There’s already a plastic island the size of Texas. Now there can be a Texas island the size of Texas.

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 9 points 2 months ago

"What is this floating pile of garbage? Is that Texas?"

[–] aarch0x40@piefed.social 53 points 2 months ago (2 children)

What an absolute waste of taxpayer dollars.

This is where you think tax payers dollars are being wasted.

The state of Texas is being used to hide and smuggle migrants into the US and I hereby call on the Trump administration to secure our border by removing Texas.

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

I vote for Lake Texas

[–] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

Both the federal gooberment and Texass stopped funding their ridiculous wall less than a month after Trump took office. 64 miles of non connected wall. Just a con.

[–] Munkisquisher@lemmy.nz 38 points 2 months ago

Who thought up removing an island to distract from the Epstien Files was a good idea?

[–] Furbag@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Violates the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and therefore not legal, but when has that ever stopped this fucking braindead administration?

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 16 points 2 months ago

Idk, but I would support Mexico taking over Texas and renaming it Newest Mexico.

[–] ParadoxSeahorse@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

This is so easy

  1. Texan Independence, introduce naturalisation
  2. Sign free trade and migration deals with US and Mexico
  3. Save the islands & profit
