The DF team were invited to GTC where the tech was unveiled and their first video was gushing over the technology while repeating Nvidia’s claims that the tech only modified lighting though there now seem to be some legitimate doubts about that. Also, they discuss receiving death threats over their initial positive coverage.

People that issue death threats for shit like this are absolute trash excuses of humans. That said, DF is trying to double-dip here - sychophantically and uncritically hyping a product for the clout/money, and then acting like they still have the credibility to be considered objective critics. What a joke.

I agree. While DF have always had the technical computer knowledge of the average iOS user, that doesn't excuse death threats (if they even actually receieved any and aren't just making the claim up for sympathy reasons) of any kind.

They made their hype video, now they make their pseudo-intellectual analyses to try to appeal to both sides of the equation: fanatics of and against DLSS. The problem is, they never had any credibility to begin with. None of their "technical" videos are detailed enough to be anything more than surface level overviews, which to the average iOS user makes them seem like geniuses, but anyone with real technical knowledge can see that they only know enough to be dangerous because they think they know more than they do.

I appreciate the more in-depth discussion and admitting they should have waited, still don't agree they should have taken audience and developer reaction into account, your opinion is your opinion and is valid if you think it's great they should and did say it. Honestly I'm still going to be more, maybe wary, of DF's future output, I'll still enjoy their technical performance breakdown but it'll be shaded a bit going forward.

But onwards, so something they kind of hit on about the intent of the scene that they didn't cover because everyone is focused on the face but something that instantly stood out to me is just about the background. He's talking about the mood of the character about how she's nervous and not wanting to go there, well the background and lighting also contributes to that in subtle but I think very important ways too.

The original it's dark, it's foggy, rainy, with the darkness prevailing over the light, with the gloom of the day is reflecting the mood of the character. The DLSS 5, it's bright and shiny like it's just a slightly damp day and the light is going to overcome the darkness at any minute. That to me stood out just as much as the OFication of the character.

Yeah if you get further along in the video (it’s long so I understand many people may not get 30 mins in or whatever) they talk about how someone on Reddit noted that the tone mapping was way out of whack and they edited some of the images to show what it would look like if it was corrected and it’s way more natural looking with less blown out highlights and uncanny more yassified stuff.

And watch, most characters will get the same lips/eyes. Everything will be "samey"
