This is pretty much what everyone said immediately after Anthropic reached for the "too powerful for the public" excuse. Weve all seen this exact song and dance before. I suppose when you've just finished shoveling billions of dollars of speculative funding into a data center inferno its not acceptable to say that you rolled the dice and they came up snake eyes, but its still galling to be lied to so transparently.

I promise I built a flying car....no I can't show you...but Ford and GM and Honda and Toyota and BMW... they're all on the list of seeing it and getting access first...and I'm giving them each 1000 hours of free flight time to do their testing...o no they haven't flown it yet but they're excited...no I drove my Honda pilot here today for the announcement...any other questions....

Yet they still are knocking on the door of a 1tn valuation. 😖

Because the market isn't connected to reality. It is just connected to the oligarch circle jerk, and the oligarchs fucking love AI in every shape and form.

This is basically guaranteed under late stage capitalism. As the richest of the rich accumulate a greater proportion of wealth they just buy more and more assets (when they're not buying politicians, lobbyists, media empires, etc), artificially inflating the value of those assets well beyond what was ever possible in a competitive market.

They command so much wealth that they can increase the value of their existing assets just by buying more, driving up the value of those assets via reduced liquidity and artificial scarcity (see housing). It grants them greater and greater opportunity and power to manipulate markets and extract greater and greater profit margins from everyone poorer than they are. It's a cruel, psychopathic system structured to benefit the most immoral, unethical, and undeserving of criminals.

That's the most devastatingly effective description of the shitshow that I've ever heard.

Well worded and thanks. ✌🏼

Trust? I haven't trusted a tech company since the original Terminator came out.

I’m willing to believe them, because if any of the security or safety issues are true, then they damn well better take careful action.

But if it turns out it was overstated. That sucks, and they deserve the flack.

[–] obviouspornalt@fedinsfw.app 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I suspect that both things are true. the tool does find security issues, and they wildly over hyped what it's finding for marketing purposes.

Wildly? No. Lot of uninformed takes on this thread. It really did find zillions of serious vulnerabilities that nobody found before.

That doesn't mean no human could find them. But no human did
